This is my first time ever participating in any discussion with ex -witnesses ever, and it's long overdue. I discovered the real truth about 6 years ago with the aid of websites like this (cannot contain my gratefulness), now I am stepping into your world and it feels right. My family runs four generations deep in witness muck,my great-grandmother was the oldest living pioneer in our region for what seemed like forever, three of my great-grandparents were "anointed",my grandfather hobnobbed with the governing body, etc.,etc. Fred Franz even vacationed at my grandparents home in florida on one occasion. My father ,of course, is an elder. Recently he has come to a point where he thinks he can help adjust my thinking regarding the things I have learned concerning 1914, the two-class system, and a few more of the Society's blatant tricks. Truth has always been very important to me, it was my fire during those years I was a regular pioneer, and now in the name of truth I can't stand the oh-so-ugly WTS. But I have this pipe dream that one day I will be reunited with my family, and due to my fathers recent crusade, this may be my chance. So I have to send him a detailed letter discussing my "views" (as if 2+2 =4 can be considered an opinion) and I may only get one shot at this. I am quite proud of what I am coming up with regarding the trinity, the cross, hellfire, christmas, birthday celebrations, and the two-class system and I will post what I am going to write to him under this topic that I just started. I am extremely excited about doing this- maybe I will discover that I am as good at explaining this as I think I am--more importantly, maybe I will receive some constructive criticism before I mail this thing off to dear old dad. The key to this letter is brevity, I must hit the main points in a flowing discussion of the facts before his mind has a chance to drift, and i have obsessed every day for 6 years about how this can be accomplished. As mentioned, I think I can pull this off regarding the subjects mentioned above, but I've run into a snag with 1914.

I've read Carl Olof Johnsonn's works several times (what great stuff) , but there is so much to it! The continual cross-referencing of the Babylonian regnal lists can get quite complicated, and for the life of me I cannot think of a way to put this in an easy-to-read format. JERUSALEM FELL IN 586 BC, NOT 607BC--SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME SUM UP THIS POINT IN A LETTER TO MY DAD!!! As promised, I will begin posting how I will explain other key topics to him over the next few weeks, but I desperately need help with 1914! And if someone is talented at summing up the main points about the wts's fudging the numbers regarding the earthquakes, wars, and pestilences since 1914 that would be greatly appreciated too. Or maybe there is something like this already on the net that i have not discovered that someone could direct me to.....I would be eternally grateful....

After I'm done with this letter to my dad (which seems like my life's work now), I can begin trying to start a witness revolution. Maybe a large group can go to an assembly wearing messages on their T-shirts. Or maybe .... well that is for a later date. I don't want to give away my ideas for a screenplay about the largest cult in the world just yet either. With the right flavoring a really great movie could be made, and it needs to be done. OK, I'm getting delusions of grandeur now, lol , I have to make a run at dad first....PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank You for reading my post....

    Hi Apostlestate-

First off, Welcome to JWD. It's great to see 'lurkers' speak up.

I don't have much research guidance myself but there is so much info here. While waiting for others to post here, you might look back on some threads that 'Ithinkisee' started. He did quite a bit of research to help his believing wife see the truth about the 'truth'.

FYI - you posted at a time of day when many people are sleeping and your thread may get pushed back from the top of 'Active Topics'. If that happens, you can add a post to this thread to Bump it to the top (bttt).

Another tip may be to start another thread asking for assistance with the specific doctrinal aspect you cited. Many will jump on that especially if you get right to the point. Many here like to read the stories, others get distracted or are too busy but are more inclined to respond with quick reference notes.

Sorry I'm not more helpful but hopefully keeps your topic active enough to get more responses.

    Take care and again: Welcome!

    -Denise.

(Edited to correct name of poster - I must be very, very tired.....)

    Hi Jason -

I would have posted sooner but both me and my computer are dragging...

I was trying to find a good link to put in there but you will find your way around, I just know you will!!

There is so much amazing info on this board. I stayed up 3 nights in a row just reading and reading and reading. (I was a walk-away believer at the time.)

Look in the 'Beliefs' section and 'Best of', too.

Good luck with the letter to your dad. (Maybe you will share it with us??) I hope he responds to your logical presentation.

    Good Night.....

    -Denise.

Welcome again apostlestate,,,, I'm also new here... hehehe i'm recently df'd and not very proud for the reason although i admit that due to the acid reflux from the spiritual cut and paste food plus the uncaring atmosphere that is felt on both the english and foreign congregations played a great deal of my lax morals... (yes.. the warmth of the foreing congs is becoming more of a myth)... Anyways... I'm cashing in on a 401K and DO PLAN TO RENT OUT A FEW STREET BILLBOARDS near main avenues that lead to some kingdom halls.... hehehe...just haven't thought of a good message yet!!!

I have to send him a detailed letter

DO NOT WRITE ANYTHING. If you do, you will probably be disfellowshipped. Talk to him by all means, but if you put it in writing you take a big risk. Don't think that because he is your father it will stay private. Even with good intentions, he may seek the advice of fellow elders to respond to your observations and they will follow a different agenda.

Being Disfellowshipped is something to avoid if you can.

    Hi apostlestate, welcome.
Your story sounds similar to mine. I started researching and discussing things with my mother as i went. Every time she would retort up with a WTS answer. I would write down everything, do further research to address every comment till now I have a 500 page book. I have posted some of the information at jwfacts.com
A word of warning. I found out the hard way from several family members that a JW will not listen to reason. They have too much to loose. You father will be throwing away his entire family history if he accepts what you say, that is more than the average mind can cope with. My family eventually cracked and finally have nothing to do with me.
No doctrinal discussion will make the slightest difference for as long as a JW believes the WTS is directed by Jehovah. My mother casually dismisses anything about 1914. 537 plus 70 years equals 607, the bible plus the Governing Body can not be wrong, end of story! It is the same for every doctrine. "How could anyone know more than Jehovah's Organisation?"
I recommend you read http://jwfacts.com/index_files/5min.htm and think if you can work that concept in to your letter. A JW will blindly dismiss anything you say for as long as they have confidence in the WTS. That is the underlying premise to everything. Destroy that foundation and the rest quickly follows. Don't undermine the authority of the F&D slave and you are bashing your head and with it your emotions against a wall.

In regards to earthquakes see http://jwfacts.com/index_files/earthquakes.htm It shows the blatant misquoting and misinformation that has been provided in the Watchtower. I do not mind if you copy it, or change it to incorporate into the information to your father.

I wish you all the best, but guard your heart as you will be devastated if you can not get through.

MMMM... I kinda disagree with the last posting from James... Getting disfellowshipped is not necessarily something that needs to be avoided... I went straight to my dear friendly elders; 1 which actually was a very good friend and I know stood up for me although i did very wicked things... the other 1 hated my guts forever as i've always been so charismatic and the older one is a real hard core jdub who is very sentimentalist... in either case you cannot imagine the GREAT RELIEF i felt when the announcement was made... I really put a lot of thought in to it.. I love my 5 and 9 yr old nieces ... but i know they'll make their own choice later in life... actually the older one already asks my brother stuff such as ... "daddy,,, how come we cannot celebrate birthdays (in spanish 'cumpleanos' (to score years) ... but we can celebrate the fact that granma is 'cumpliendo anos' (scoring years) of marriage (25yrs)???? LOL
