how long did you hang on to the language?

I have noticed some who have recently left still hang on to 'unique' language of the society. How long did it take you stop using the buzz words and things like brother, sister, Jah, and many others? And do you still recognize the word jehovah as a word for God?

The witless make the name Jehovah a dirty word...I rarely use it...but will at times.

It is hard to stop using it since I do my review. Some of these words/phrases act as shorthand when communicating with ex-jws. I don't think I will ever forget the meaning though.

I speak 3 languages and while I get a little rusty through disuse, I never forget. Same with playing a musical instrument.

It has been said that if you forget your history, you could be doomed to repeat it.

I still use it...sometimes its the best way to convey a JW thought or explain an experience within the borg. A lot of the time I use those terms mockingly as a way to distance myself from my former ways.

The other day I was even wondering how I would address a JW that I didn't know well enough to call by their first name. Would I have the guts to say "Mr." So & So, or would I blurt out "Brother" So & So? When I think of some of these people, the Brother and Sister labels are automatic. So weird.

It fades, but so far, hasn't seemed to leave completely. 14 years out.

I can't say how long it took, since I didn't really pay that close of attention to it.

Once you're in a religion as deeply as someone like me was, it colors the remainder of your life. It's unavoidable.

I fight not to use them. I hate it when I do. I've done pretty well at saying "lucky" instead of "fortunate" I hated being told I wasn't allowed to say I feel lucky anymore. I also hate the word encouraging after hearing it a bazillion times. Or uplifting, same thing. I try to use other things like build up, or exciting, or even slang, "that's happenen man" LOL

As a fader I use it around friends and family.

It's like speaking a different language.

Around non-witnesses I can be "normal"

It really irritates me when I hear a witness useing the language, especially if they do it infront of a non witness, however, here on this board I quite often use it myself because its just easier, you lot know what I mean without me having to go round the houses, eg, its easier to say Kingdom Hall than JW church.

When I use them I put them in quotation marks or place the word supposedly etc before them to make sure that no one thinks that I really consider them genuine, eg the "annointed", the supposedly annointed, the so called annointed, the pseudo annointed. Unless it is very clear from the context that they don't mean anything to me.

For some reason I never used it and believe it or not no one noticed.I would call someone by their first name or whatever.Hated to sound like a friggin pilgrim or puritan and that silly brother sister crap.Did not use any of their usual words or phrases that I can remember.I can still spot one by their lingo and the 'bookbag'.

I call it brief case myself.Seen some of their emails at other sites.They use the 'agape' word a lot.....agape this!!!!! :}
