Recently Metatron made the comment that many Witnesses are in Witnesses in name only, they go to the meetings, comment, go out in service but they live their own life and have their own rules regarding blood transfusions and college education.
That is exactl;y how I feel and DO!
I think the whole culture is changing - I see many of my peers buying buy-to-let homes as their pension in the UK and abroad (some of the brothers in my circuit have grouped together and bought apartments off-plan in Dubai including a few elders - I don't think anyone would have done this 20 years ago in the Org).
The 30 / 40 year old generation have seen the sacrifices their parents have made & concluded (righly or wrongly) that they just aren't prepared to be a window cleaner in their sixties or live on a meagre state pension in a crummy council flat. I guess when you are told that Armageddon will come before you go to school / leave school / get married / have children etc etc that the message starts to weaken after some time.
Good point XBEHERE.
I was at a school conference recently regarding GenX GenY, etc.
One point noted regarding the differences for Gen Y is they dont respect TITLES. You need to prove yourself to them - earn their respect. This was different than previous generations - the higher the title, the more respect.
Young JW's will vote with their feet - and start leaving at an even faster pace.
YA!

Exactly!
And the children of those 30-40 year olds will be adults in 10-15 years. If you think the "sense of urgency" is waning now, just wait a decade or so. That, combined with the huge psychological impact of 2014 coming and going (did Jesus prophesy about the "the last days" or "the last centuries"?), and there isn't much upside to this organization.
My parents were close to buying a house in the early 90's, but they put it off because the Society encouraged them to simplify their life - only now are they just getting their first home.
Iv,e just been reading all the comments on this header,OH! my, what a change there has been in the past 4 years or so since i was a witness,(now disfellowshiped) What has happend to the W.T& B.T.SOC.,?And its Governing Body, Have they lost Jahovahs Blessings, I DONT THINK SO.
Could it be the fact that in scripture it says, MANY WILL FALL AWAY IN THE TIMES OF THE END.
A piont to think on.
KEN.
here's a better scripture to think about, kenneth
"false prophets will arise and mislead many"
After 120 years of falsely predicting that Armageddon is Soon!, exactly how is the Watchtower not guilty of being a false prophet?
..and if you have trouble thinking that the Watchtower has lost God's approval, I suggest you consider the words of C.T. Russell
himself ( as quoted in the Proclaimer's book) that a lack of money would show that Jehovah wants the Watchtower to shut down.
How many cut backs ( once a month Awakes, fewer books, cheap paperback printing, no food service at assemblies,
layoffs at Bethel) does it take to make you realize that God isn't with them?

Sorry, but I have come to a different conclusion, that they never did have Jehovah's blessing, but only thought themselves to have it.
Any Christian religion could use that scripture to rationalize why people are falling away from the religion. While it may be true that people are still being disfellowhipped for immorality, many others fall away because they begin to see that the WBTS has been spreading falsehoods from the very beginning, hiding over their own transgressions.
Now, since the WBTS has been professing the "end soon" almost since the beginning, this lends more credence to the thought that they simply use the scripture you mention to scare people into staying in the fold even in the face of the WBTS gross wrongdoings towards Jehovah's people.
Now, you may believe that you were DF'd for good reason per their doctrine. But read some of the other ex-JW stories here. You will see in many, many, many instances, people were treated very, very badly by Elders, supposedly "appointed by Holy Spirit" and judging according to doctrine laid out by the Governing Body.
"By their fruit shall they be known."

This is so true Dozy!! I was told I wouldn't leave school (21 years ago!) and I remember as a child they were building a huge Sainsburys (supermarket) here and my mum and another sister were laughing and saying "that'll never be finished"! They are now knocking it down to rebuild...lol.
In my old congregation there were literally no young families left. When I looked around the regulars were all the die-hards 50s and 60s brothers, there are a few 30s couples but they are generally irregular and weak and one disappears every year (hey last year it was me!) There are no teenagers pioneering. When I left school there were 7 or 8 of us.
