I've been thinking. Some of us may remember getting to celebrate christmas, and I wonder if any of those remember being told by adults to go to bed early christmas eve, so santa would be there sooner.
Why not start one of those suicide cults based on the same premise, if we all kill ourselves the new system will be here sooner.

I'm afraid this has already been done a number of times.
Historically apocalyptic beliefs and glorification of martyrdom are closely linked together -- at least as far back as the Maccabean revolt (2nd century BC). Many interpretations of Jesus' chosen and planned death in the Gospels rely on a similar perspective imo.
