Yes Leolaia, the northern English dialects retain the oldest pronunciation of these vowels. "us" is pronounced [z]...
Watch out also for the long [a:] of southern England being pronounced as a short [ æ ] as in "bath"... which is a clipped version of the General American long [ æ: ] but unshaded, as GA [æ:] is, by [e]...
Also of interest is a final long [i:] of words like "study" being pronounced as a short [e]... eg. {stoo-deh}
Much of the series is shot in Cardiff, Wales... so you can hear the Welsh sing-song lilt if you're attentive, as well as a couple words of their own language...
