Why are Witnesses better at being "Mean" than being "Nice"?

If the elders tell the congregation to shun someone, they will do a good job at it.

If the elders tell the congregation to be good to one another and forgive one another, it doesn't always happen.

If someone is in need in the congregation, it doesn't mean that they will be helped.

So, why are the witnesses better at being mean or insensitive, rather than nice and caring and generous?

My sister is not a witness. She is of another religion, and when someone in the congregation needs help, they go full speed ahead to help. This is what she told me...

She told me that a person in her congregation needed medical help, and it would cost too much to be treated right now, so he is waiting to be treated because he doensn't have the money to get treated right now. If he waits a few months, he will be treated with our universal health care which is free, but takes longer.

So, my sister organized a spaghetti dinner for the whole congregation. Many people of her congregation paid $10 for the dinner, and they were able to obtain over $1000. They gave that money to the person in the congregaion who needed it to get treated, and he was able to get treated months ahead of time.

Thats what I call love and care.

You won't see this in the JW org. My sister and parents were surprised that in the JW's they didn't have such love for one another...

Remember the one we would quote from James - "faith without works is dead." If you see your brother starving, cold, sick, and you walk away.

Sorry that all changed since the publishing moguls declared a new brand of Christendom - JW-dumb.

Pure selfishness excused by time and books reported.

When a person focuses on the negative, it colors every aspect of their lives.

A child sees how its mother acts and follows suit. This is how the "by their fruit" works. The mother organization is not very loving, tender, kind, forgiving, etc., so its children follow suit.

That's stereotyping JWs. You know what I'm not a JW but that doesn't mean they are all like that.

I know a JW woman and she is pleasant. I think that the statement should read:

So, why are certain people on this board better at being mean or insensitive, rather than nice and caring and generous?

They are conditioned to do as told. Therefore they have no real human feelings toward those they view as unworthy. Such ones are dead.

They obey this one a bit better than the rest because of how the society has painted the rebel ( dfed one or apostate), as being a major rebellious loser and it's easier to detest someone like that and follow orders of shunning them than it is to be nice and helpful.

Not all witnesses are unkind and uncaring. We had a sister in our hall who lived in a small shack with many grandkids to look after when her daughter died. A brother in our hall campaigned with the town and witnesses to help and a new home was put together for her with much aid from the congregation.

My wife and daughter along with many others in our hall were always good about making meals for the needy and sick. Our hall ....granted, was one of the friendlier closer knit halls....unlike many other halls.

As for witnesses being "mean" to me.....I find most in my hall are still kind and nice to me....even though I was booted in 94. Much of their "meaness" depends on the person they are treating this way.

Oh yeah, thats much better! I have met more caring and loving people on this board than I have ever met inside the org!!!!!!!

In the example I gave above, a typical JW congregation would open their bible and say, in the new system, you will be cured, dear brother.

What I liked about my sister,s religion, they didn't just wait, but did something about it.

Groups like JWs reinforce the "us" and "them" mentality. We all have it to a certain degree, but exclusive groups develop it into an art-form. It gives the mind permission to view "others" as non-humans. It's the type of psychological programming a soldier receives so the soldier can do his job... which may include killing another human. JWs are also "soldiers," involved in "God's War" or "Theocratic Warfare," so in some ways the JW has to dehumanize "others" so he can do his job... stay faithful and watch the "others" be destroyed at Armageddon. It's a very small and easy step to go from there to being "mean" to "others."

Ya, Odrade. And they carry it just as far as the Russian KGB did, by even turning on their own family members with suspicion and hatred and judgment.
