Dogma of eternal punishment....(before I was a Dub)

  The dogma of eternal punishment and hell is one of the things that led me to question my faith.
  
  We live in a temporal world/universe bound by time. Either (as the faithful believe) the world will be made new after the final judgment, or the universe and humanity will cease to exist (entropy and all that). In either case, no crime, no sin, committed in this life can have everlasting effects.
  
  How then, can eternal punishment for a sin having only temporal effects be just?
  
  My answer is that it is unjust.

  When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He descended into hell. In Acts 2, Peter is speaking, verse 31, " . . . seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in HELL"
  
  When Jesus Christ died His soul went into hell.
  
  And in Matthew 12:40, Jesus Christ says:

  "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly: so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the HEART OF THE EARTH. "

  The Bible is clear — Hell is inside the earth!Ephesians 4:9, says of Jesus: "Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the LOWER PARTS OF THE EARTH."
  On page 85 of Beyond Death’s Door, Dr. Rawlings writes patients who described hell said, ". . . this place seems to be UNDERGROUND or WITHIN THE EARTH in some way."

  Scientist and Bible teacher, Henry Morris also agrees the Bible plainly teaches that hell is in this earth:
  
  

  "So far as we can tell from Scripture, the present hell, is somewhere in the heart of the earth itself. It is also called 'the pit' (Isa. 14:9, 15: Ezek. 32:18-21) and 'the abyss' (Rev. 9:2). . .
  
  
  The writers certainly themselves believed hell to be real and geographically 'beneath' the earth's surface. . .To say this is not scientific is to assume science knows much more about the earth's interior than is actually the case. The great 'pit' [hell] would only need to be about 100 miles or less in diameter to contain, with much room to spare, all the forty billion or so people who have ever lived, assuming their 'spiritual' bodies are the same size as their physical bodies."

  First, we postulate that if souls exist, then they must have some mass. If they do, then a mole of souls can also have a mass. So, at what rate are souls moving into hell and at what rate are souls leaving?

  I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

  As for souls entering hell, lets look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to hell. Since, there are more than one of these religions and people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all people and all souls go to hell.

  With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in hell to increase exponentially.

  Now, we look at the rate of change in volume in hell. Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in hell to stay the same, the ratio of the mass of souls and volume needs to stay constant.

  So, if hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter hell, then the temperature and pressure in hell will increase until all hell breaks loose.

  Of course, if hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in hell, than the temperature and pressure will drop until hell freezes over.

  There are several biblical verses clearly stating the existence of a lake of fire and sulfur and eternal tormenting in them but somehow it's hard to believe that this is literally meant to be sure unrepentent humans will ultimately suffer torment and the demons may get tormented for tens of thousands of years to pay for their crimes against humanity, but an eternity that is too much to torment anyone.

  This was one area I agreed with the dubs on....among a couple others.

  This doctrine planted a doubt in my mind when I turned christian after exiting the dubs. I wondered if they thought this teaching was biblical, how many things could I trust that they taught. It make me question things a bit more.
