They have some politicians with good foresight in Sweden and they are on course to becoming totally oil free in 15 years, even vehicles will not use gasoline, and given the tripling of oil prices in 10 years that is a wise decision, after all oil will run out sooner or later. Already only a third of its energy comes from oil. If only more countries were as environmentally sensitive, instead of Bush just saying that the USA is addicted to oil he should do something about it.

The whole of this interesting article:

Interesting. They actually understand the nature of substitution of goods and how TRUE substitution is not obtaining a good from a distant source (OPEC or not) but utilizing a different good altogether. All these people saying more oil availabily will help curb prices are sadly wrong. Its substitution of oil that will take the pressure of petroleum products, not the gathering of more elsewhere. Basic economics for you.

Sweden is about 850 miles long, only 9 000 000 people living here so the distances are long between the cities.

I think belittling efforts made by one country rather defeatist. These kind of projects are going on around the world. Scotland, for example has a target of 40% renewable energy by 2020. England similar targets. When you add this up across the world, we are talking about a major shift to renewables and the impact on the environment can only be a good one.

The Sheiks will be devastated!! Don't be surprised if terrorists from oil-gouging countries try to "punish" Sweden with acts of terrorism for this dastardly money-saving scheme.
