Yes, we should all feel blessed that they make the very least amount of effort to attend to their flock.

I suppose so, Sword, but unfortunately by the time they make these unannounced visits the people they are visiting are well past whatever crisis motivated them to drop out in the first place. Seems like they are almost always a day late and a dollar short.

It's easy to deal with that, if they don't have the common decency to ring before asking you just refuse to see them until they decide to comply and let them get upset about it rather than you.

Do you realize that elders have their own families to care for and the majority have full time jobs to tend to? Do you realize the pressure of caring for 80 to 100 publishers? Do you realize that they also get tired and fatigued? Do you realize that they are humans? Do you realize what it takes to prepare the different assignments for the meetings? All this without adding judicial committees, shepearding calls or service.

does that mean they dont have to call first? they wanna be elders.
A sister got in a boat with her son and made it over miles and miles to an assembly but elders can't ring lol.

If they can't handle it, they should not be given the responsibility. This is why other religions pay their clergy. They see it as important enough for those qualified to specialize in it. Yet another vast example of the basic failure of the entire JW religion to serve its purpose.

It's a bully tactic. Show up un-announced, make sure the numbers are in your favor (two to one) and ask personal questions. This has the effect of putting you off balance from the get-go. It provides much better chances that they will find out something they can use against you.

Like Blondie said, they're hoping to get something on you. They want to suprise you and get inside the house to have a look around without you having time to put things away. Are there ashtrays on the coffee table, or does the house smell like cigarettes? Are beer bottles out in the kitchen? Worldly people sitting on the couch? What was on the TV when they barged in? Any improper novels or DVD's by the entertainment center? Are the kids dressed too "worldly?" Is the house clean and orderly? If you've been missing meetings, do you seem to be in good health? Is there evidence you are becoming materialistic, like a big new TV, new furniture, remodeling the home? Etc, etc.
At our Hall, they used to have "shepherding nights" where two elders would pair up and ride together, making random stops at peoples homes. They were spying on the Dubs hoping to see what REALLY went on in their homes.
