Dear Doug,
Just want to add my condolences. Thank you for sharing this piece of your father with us. So many of us will be where you are at now. The dreaded phone call (if I even get one), the reaffirmation of coldness towards your loved ones, because they're not the congregation elite, or have outlived their usefulness. My heart goes out to you. I am going to call my mother today.
Duane Floyd Checketts, I honor you this day. May your journey reunite you with your loved ones. Thank you for the legacy you leave in your son.
Love and Peace,
Bridgette

I haven't been around long enough to know you, but my heart goes out to you. I think that in this post, you have captured the lives of so many of our fathers, and I think we can all identify with the grief that you so eloquently express. Thank you. Please know that you will be in my thoughts.

My condolences for you and your family. We've never met and yet I sit here with tears in my eyes. Sigh.

Our deepest sympathies to you for your loss. Thanks for sharing something of your father's life. I think it is important to do that.
Its wonderfull to see how many cyberspace "strangers" who truly care.
As for my wife and I, it was primarily due to your's and others efforts that we are not currently speaking Borg.
Besides our Sympathies, you also have our Thanks.
Our Best and Kindest Regards

Doug,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I can only begin to imagine your sadness. I don't think anyone could ever be prepared to lose a good parent, no matter how long or full a life they led.
I know that your Dad gave a lot of his life to the religion. It speaks volumes about him, though, that he also gave a lot to you. You speak of him beautifully, and have definitely done right by him, even though his JW memorial service will not.
I cry thinking of you playing and him singing. I know you won't ever forget the sound of that beautiful music.
I salute him, and you.
*hug*

I too, am very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. You've been a great inspiration to many of us from H20 and now this forum, so please take care my friend.

Ah well. As the old saying goes, "this too shall pass."
I think one of the more graceful teachings of the jw's is that there is peace at death. You're dad has found that peace. I'm sorry for your loss, and your mother's. Death is hard when there's love.
May you find some peace too, Farkel, in this life.

Farkel, may I make a suggestion?
That beautiful eulogy you wrote, have it published in the newspaper with his picture.
Here in Fresno, they will print a basic announcement, but you are allowed to make your own article. At least it will put some on notice.
So sorry again. My dad is my best buddy and I would be lost without him.

Many memories...and sadness, and life goes on. Too bad about the WT shit for a service.

Farkel,
Your Eulogy for your father brought back so many memories of my own father. He was born in 1919 and served in World War II. There were many parallels with his life and your father's. I wanted to write a eulogy to my father here, but it is not the time and place. Suffice it to say, I know your lose, and my heart is filled with sadness.
Farkel, please answer my e mail.
