When you were in the borg how many scriptures did you know off by heart and could remember chapter and verse.
Id say I could remember about 20, and they were the ones we would constantly use ! Sad really after 20 years

I was very good at remembering verses themselves but very bad at remembering where they were in the Bible I could recall maybe five or six. Mind you though chapters and verses were introduced at a later time they weren't in the originals.
I used to be really good at remembering what it said where. Now I remember what it said, but not necessarily where. :)
I always stunk at this. No sure why as I can remember all sorts of stupid non-JW trivia. I could probably only come up with a handful of quotes with chapter and verse. I really was a pretty sucky witness all things considered.
I wonder if remembering scripture and where they are is related to whether or not you have a penis, like map reading...
*laughs & hides*
Funny thing is that I can remember the arguments surrounding many scriptures, but not the actual scriptures.
I don't find it sad that I can't remember more scrips from memory. While I do consider reading the Bible the 1st time to have been a valuable use of my time/energy, rereading & memorizing it was a waste of precious time and brain cells IMO. Remembering things often requires reviewing the material occassionally, an activity I've purposely avoided. I'm actually quite happy to have forgotten. At least some things can be healed.
It used to piss my parents off to no end that I could remember lyrics to a song/rap... but couldn't remember scriptures...
I used to know tons, especially when I was a Pioneer. Now I know a handful and like you said, mainly ones that were drilled in over and over again.
I too use to know tons when I was a pioneer. My mom was a huge party thrower and we use to get together with friends all the time and play Bible Trival Pursuit. Yes, we were the Flanders, I am the first to admit it. What is funny is my mother still has no clue who the Flanders are, because will call her Sis. Flander from time to time. Hy-dally Ho there neighbor.
