My biggest question was how large is large on the social gathering- I did not question neither did anybody else - It was the usual boring kiss-ass WT at our hall -I was on microphones so that was a good distraction

From the pictures it appears that KH clean-up and camping is "in", video games, the internet, and ice-climbing is "out".
I assume also that all team sports, hang gliding, mountain climbing and other extreme sports are "out" as well.
I think it is a dangerous thing to consider some activities (such as field service) to be more spiritual than others, and to leave off joy for paradise. God gave us rest every seven days! There's a reason rest is divine.
Another area JW's cheat themselves and others is in the matter of practical helps, considering a magazine placement to be superior to a neighbourly casserole, and an invitation to the meeting to be friendlier than a cup of coffee.
I prefer to do all things to the glory of God, including rest!

I like that part about , sisters don't be giggeling the boobies and brothers no dry humping the sisters . LMAO .Oh no don't play any games you could lose at and start talking smack . Jeezus just how petty are these idiots ? You can't play a game competitively and realize it's just for fun? What a bunch of stooges . Yah video games are evil huh . It beats letting your kid play in the street where some real violence can take place and you just play stupid and not watch your kid. This had to have been the worst article ever .

One dub answered up and compared the people in the two pictures, those on a camping weekend and those that were engaged in "solo" activities and pronounced the latter as unwholesome because they were alone and not associating with anyone.
The whole article sucked, it is hardly even worth contemplating recreation as a dub because of the mental energy that goes along with trying to see if a) is it wholesome and b) will is stumble anyone
The dubs think that field service and kingdom hall cleaning is recreation, let them get on with it, they have no lives, except for those that see through the bs and do their own thing.
Understand though, that some do not go along with the FDS and still do their own thing like Bluesbrother said, they just give the impression they agree to keep the elders away.

When some of the elders, ministerial servants, or other mature ones are present at a social gathering, they provide an influence for good and the occasion can be even more refreshing.
This is a very sly point introduced here.
We all know that the WTS pretty much condemned "large" social gatherings several years ago. But they continue to "allow" or "encourage" "small" gatherings.
The problem with small gatherings is that if you get a just a few close friends together, the possiblity for disgruntleness becomes greater than it would have been at a congregation picnic. If you have a party of just close friends with no elders around, it's too easy to bring up taboo subjects or practice taboo things.
So now the WTS says, "Hey, invite an elder or an MS to your social events. They'll provide a good influence, and you'll have more fun." What they really want is to squelch any possible anti-WT talk or to have a witness to any thing done that doesn't meet approval.
It's another level of control.

Blondie, after reading your review, I do know why I don;t miss this Pharisee religion at all!!!!! They literally try to make you feel guilty over everything and anything that possibly could be! After reading the Watchtower, a good JW would figure out it is better, after all, to just not do anything with Witnesses---and that's the reason so many JWs sneak and do their own thing with the "world". At least they won't be judged and put on restrictions from the congregation.

Really, though, it should not be necessary for others to tell us that a particular book, movie, game, dance, or song is unacceptable.
They say this and then spend the rest of the article telling them what is appropriate recreation.'
I remember when they cracked down on the recreation at our congregation. Thanks goodness my mom wasn't too harsh on us. She still let us do whatever we wanted and we still turned out O.K.

Yah really . Recreation = donut shop while out in field service . They don't know how to have fun , I think that's why you never see any gatherings at the kingdub hall for people to eat drink and be merry because they know it would wind up with a bunch of nit picking and needless aggravation .

6 How can we be sure that a certain form of recreation is acceptable for a Christian? Parents provide guidance for their children, and elders help as needed.
It would appear that the Pharisaical WTS could not bring themselves to simply write: Be certain to run to the
RabbiElders for a binding answer.Really, though, it should not be necessary for others to tell us that a particular book, movie, game, dance, or song is unacceptable. Paul said that "mature people ... through use have their perceptive powers trained to distinguish both right and wrong." (Hebrews 5:14; 1 Corinthians 14:20) The Bible sets forth guiding principles. Your conscience, trained by God's Word, will help you it you listen to it.-1 Timothy 1:19.
How very true. Nevertheless, despite the counsel at Ephesians 4:11-15, the Society attempts to keep its adherents forever as "spiritual Babes".

Blondie, I enjoy your re-cap of the Watchtower studies.
This particular article made me have a flashback to being a teen. Couldn't join the high school band, football games were on meeting night, and those God-Awful worldly kids are there! If my dad had been JW also, I don't believe I would have survived. It gets to the point that if you have fun, it must be SIN.
Also, how are you going to not let recreation interfere with meetings and service when you have something to do at the Hall ALL WEEKEND????? I can remember anytime us Witness kids got together, everyone worried that we would commit some terrible sin. We were watched and usually some reason was found to get us in trouble.
It's articles like these which makes people afraid to LIVE. It's also the reason why many who are raised Witness leave and proceed to self-destruct. Also, at every DC and Circuit Assembly we were warned about music, dancing, dating, getting too friendly with kids at school, missing meetings, even thinking impure thoughts. No wonder we have ISSUES!!
Whew, I feel better. Now I'm going to blast my stereo and dance til I can't breathe. Something with a driving beat, like maybe Public Enemy or Prince (back when he was still great).
