More confusing is why this woman would sue them to essentially "let her back in?"

And of course, the Watchtower doesn't provide any specifics about the case, making it dificult for anyone to access any court documentation relevent to the case. They expect people to accept only their biased version of events.

Most true Christians loyally support God and his righteous laws.

Ya gotta love all the JW Buzzwords in this screwed up sentence emanating from the demonz in Crooklyn, New York.

This cult has absolutely no clue at all. Do they even read their New World Bibles?

(NWT) 2 Corinthians 2:6-7 6 This rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man, 7 so that, on the contrary now, YOU should kindly forgive and comfort [him], that somehow such a man may not be swallowed up by his being overly sad.. . .

(Holman Christian Standard Bible) 2 Cor 2:6-7 The punishment by the majority is sufficient for such a person, so now you should forgive and comfort him instead; otherwise , this one may be overwhelmed by excessive grief.

Even when I was a witness I never clearly saw how the scritpures taught what was carried out. The WTS allways seemed so formal and official, even when the context of the scritpure didn't reveal something that clearly put. Kind of like the time I first heard people talking about the "first century governing body" and how JW's have the same thing today. I couldn't help but think that this was a stretch. Of course, at that time I actually FELT BAD for thinking something like that. Not anymore.

Boy I'll tell you, my parents did not bring me into this world to be treated like that!

I am so sorry I ever ever ever got suckered into listening to that JW chick!

I had no idea I was joining a gang that would put me to death if I wanted out.

That is what it comes down to.

This is the text of a Time magazine article from 1987 about the suit against the Governing Body for its shunning policy. It wasn't the Supreme Court but a district appeals court that turned aside the suit in favor of "free exercise of religion".

    The Right To Shun

Jun. 29, 1987 Like certain Amish and Mennonite groups, Jehovah's Witnesses practice shunning: believers are required to treat as pariahs those who have been ousted from the sect. Since 1981 those who leave voluntarily have also been ostracized, even by close relatives. Janice Paul of Anchorage, a former Witness who was shunned by her close friends in the sect after she defected, decided to strike back. She sued the Governing Body of the Jehovah's Witnesses for unspecified damages, citing her emotional distress. An appeals court in San Francisco, upholding a previous ruling by a federal district court, has turned away Paul's suit. The Constitution's guarantee of "free exercise," said the appeals panel, applies even to unpopular groups and practices and "requires that society tolerate the types of harm suffered by Paul." Responded Paul: "Jesus Christ never shunned anyone."

That article used to be buried on the Watchtower site. In the past one had to really search for it before one would find it.

I find it very interesting that the WTS would put one of their most embarrassing doctrines right on the the front page of their site.

Here's why they put it up on their site.

Hence, this important case determined that a disfellowshipped or disassociated person cannot recover damages from Jehovah's Witnesses in a court of law for being shunned.^ Since the congregation was responding to the perfect directions that all of us can read in God's Word and applying it, the person is feeling a loss brought on by his or her own actions.

I guess we have been warned??
