    Hello

I disassociated myself last year, because I refused to attend a JC! I preferred to jump ship rather than be pushed!

This year my parents have invited me to the memorial? I didnt think a disassociated person could attend?

    Does anyone know?

    Sure, they can.

Last year, I went, and I was sitting next to a disfellowshipped person.

The elders just told me not to speak to him.

I DA'd 3 years ago and the JWs have obeyed my directive to stay away from my home, so no one has come by to invite me to the memorialâ„¢. My mom called me to encourageâ„¢ me to go to it, but I won't be going. I'm sure I'm the last person the local JWs would like to see, and I don't really want to associate with lying, abusive cultists anyhow.

I have absolutely no wish to go...I just wondered out of curiousity really.

Guess you are never really truly free of them.

I thought that by outing myself I would be totally free of everything and never be allowed to step foot in there again.

My husband and I disassociated ourselves 20 years ago..but we did attend the memorial a few years back to make my mother-in-law happy as she had refused counselling to shun us.. Be prepared though for the usual blather about if you want to be reinstated as a JW in good-standing.. We were told we have to sit at the back of the hall at meetings and not talk to anyone until the elders deemed we were repentent enough for re-instatement.. No Thanks we said.. LOL

Someone I know who is still attending at my old congregation told me that the local elders put up guards to keep me out when the first memorial came around after I left.

Maybe that last memorial I did the year before had something to do with this - I did not follow the outline at all. The rumors had it that I encouraged everybody to partake! (Not true exactly, I just read out the gospel account of the event without any watchtower spiel...)

I suppose they got over their paranoia after a while and gave up on the security goons. I of course had no intention of ever attending anything that they did as long as I lived.

    Welcome, Tash!

even now that I've been out a long time, my parents still invite me to the memorial. I just tell my mom thank you, but not, and I tell my dad that if I went, the rumors of my impending re-instatement bid would be greatly exaggerated. Why give them false hope, when i'm never going back, you know?

Welcome to the board...being here will do a LOT to help you get 'free' of them at last. It's a beautiful place to be.

I disassociated last August. Neither of my jw parents (nor anyone else) have invited me to the memorial. I'm happy about that.
Anyone can attend the memorial, whether they've disassociated or not. The only way they'll take issue is if you cause some disturbance. Then the dub goons will escort you to the door.
