Having been out of the org for a while now I have come to realise that when you think about certain viewpoints/activities of JW`s, it can really make you annoyed/upset/angry/laugh etc etc.

One thing that is pissing me off right now and has done for a while, is their attitude towards 'the worlds selfish pursuits'. How often did you hear that those who seek an education to get a good job are 'seeking glory for themselves' and are doing the wrong thing.

When I sit and think about this it annoys me. When you think about the jobs people do that really make a difference in society, how can these people be called 'glory seekers' or 'selfish'??

People who help feed the homeless, doctors, those who assist drug adicts, those who care for the elderly, those who wipe up the shit and sick of a dying cancer sufferer & make them comfortable, firemen,..........the list goes on.

How can the role of these people be downplayed? These are essential to the society we live in. Yet the WTS would have us believe that instead of carrying out these jobs, we would be better off knocking the doors of empty houses! Tell that to the old man who gets a bowl of soup & some bread from a charity worker helping the homeless.

The more you think about some of these things, the more you question why you were ever part of such a selfish, uncaring, judgemental, wacko organisation.

Yes - Judge them then require/rely on their services. Hypocricy, no one does it better.

They've also implied that youths who go for further studies end up thinking too much of themselves (Translation: asks too many questions), think too highly of worldly wisdom (Translation: are no longer satisfied with the simple and illogical doctrines by "Mother"), not trusting completely in Jehovah ( Translation: not a full-time slave of the Org).

I completely agree with you, jambon1. Should you ever feel like bashing up a few college-slamming elders, give me a buzz, kay?

I've just bought myself a new cricket bat. Mwahahahaha

The reason the WTS says things like this is because they have no substance in what they believe or stand for. As a result they are reduced to using the same tactics as a child in elementary school: They call people names.

You are a Poo-Poo Head and you have Cooties!

Yup... that is basically what the WTS is doing... calling people with a carrier a Poo-Poo head.

    Silly isn't it.

It has been shown that the more educated a person is, the harder it is too control them. All the cults speak against higher education. They do not want you to broaden your mind and learn how to be critical thinkers. One thing that helped me finally leave the org. was that I was educated when I came in. Unfortunatatley, they put on only a good face in the beginning. The longer I was in, I noticed a lot of things wrong with the WT. My husband and I were always fighting about this. Because I studied english in college, I picked up right away on certain cues that are meant to control you like these:

On the one hand they would say in the WT that you should each carry you own load and some have different circumstances as far as how many meetings they could attend or hours in the ministry but then with the next breath, they ask things like, Could your lack of attendance or lack of zeal for the ministry be that you do NOT APPRECIATE WHAT JEHOVAH PROVIDES FOR US THRU HIS ORGANIZATION? or you DO NOT APPRECIATE THE COMMAND TO TEACH OTHERS THE TRUTH BY FOLLOWING THE COMMAND OF JESUS TO PREACH TO OTHERS? Hello, talk about double tongued!

Also, they ask questions that provoke a mindless applause:

Friends, isn't it true we are the happiest people in the world? Who is going to admit they are not happy? Especially when we are supposed to be in the only true religion?

On top of these I noticed in a short time that they only used a few key scriptures in the WT and REPACKAGED them over and over and over and over and over again. This is why we all suffer from MIND NUMBING BOREDOM in the Tower. Once you are in a very short time, you have heard it all. It is the same spiritual JUNK FOOD!

About knocking those who do charity, Once I tried to take up a collection for battered women in my hall. Remember when they had the Awake on the subject? While calling around some shelters to see if they wanted free copies, I found that they needed a lot of supplies. Well, while trying to take up a collection from some sisters of clothing etc., they tried to accuse me of giving to Babylon the Great. When I told them these shelters had no religious affilliation, I still got reamed out by the "sisters" asking me what have you done for the truth religions lately or the friends? Well let me see, I give over 50 hours per month peddling their magazines, give money monthly to support the work, take the elderly to doctor appts., give friends who are in need (including elders) money and food, clean the KH every month, volunteer at conventions, and still you have the nerve to ask what I have done?

One more thing: the totally stupid thing we used to be told about how we dont need to do charity because we are teaching the truth to them and this will last longer than a ham sandwich thing: well, we all heard this one before. How teaching the "truth" is more beneficial than food, clothes, or medicine, etc. because those things will not last like the paradise. I am sorry if my child is sick I would want medicine for him first. And I remember in the bible many times when Jesus Healed First, taught secondly. Can you imagine if Jesus said, yes I have it in my power to help your hunger, pain, etc. but I am only going to tell you about the kingdom which may or may not come in time to help you with your immediate problem. But too bad for you.

Maybe I should have given that elder in need and his family some old WTs to nibble on instead of the bags of food?

AHA!! I knew the WTS was behind this.

My husband and his sister didn't go to college (both JWs)- Not that they didn't have the grades or the money, but according to their parents because they simply "didn't want to". Oh, whatever!! Now I know why! See, I knew the organization had something to do with this because it seemed kind of strange to me. My husband would've made an excellent lawyer, in my opinion, but never even took the SATs...not an option. I have reason to believe that his mother deliberatly asked them NOT to apply for college or even worry about it. This is so wrong!!! I've told them how at my house, not going to college was not an option...my mother made sure I went. She wanted the best for me. Mind you, we didn't have the money, but we managed. My M-i-L just remained silent when I asked her why she didn't encourage her son and daughter to go to college. Neither of them have 'careers' but have resolved to remedial jobs. I knew there was something strange all along.

Wow, what an eye-opener! It's sad how some JW young adults are denied these opportunities..."i'm annoyed too!"

Yes, Lovelylil the WT truly speaks with fork-ed tongue. The old double think double speak mentality finally sent me kicking and screaming out of there.

Yes, I also believe that the WT fight against education is to keep their followers in a state of ignorance. Also the separation from the world (not associating) and villainizing those on the "outside" keeps the JWs from getting close to anyone outside of the WT who may make them think. One of the last meetings I attended (in fact I think it was the last) the elder stood up there and said in regard to worldly people "We may know people in the world who are moral who don't drink or smoke and we may reason to ourselves that these are good and decent people, but I tell you brothers that we should not be association with these people--we should not be playing basketball with these people--we should not even be SPEAKING to these people, because if we speak to them we may become like them!"

So, what was he saying here? That there are some good moral worldly people, but we don't want to speak to them because we may become like them? And, that we may reason that these are good people because of their good behavior? I think the basketball thing was thrown in there because there were some boys in the congo playing a bit of after school basketball with some who were not witnesses. OH mY what a sin!

But there are some educated people in the WT org. The ones I knew who had half a brain were mostly miserable and a lot of those were on antidepressants. You had to swallow a pretty heavy dose of denial and boredom to continue on as an intelligent member of the WT org. Then, there were those with heavy emotional needs which outweighed their intellegence, those with insecurties and fears such as losing family.

Yes, you will realise that they will fall silent over many questions because they are embarrassed to answer.

Like they question; 'say, do you believe that EVERYONE will die at armaggeddon? Even little children??'

    - As someone once sang, silence is golden!

Actually I think the firemen get too much attention. I live next to a fire station. And after some recent humpy bumpy that was going on the student girls across the road hung a sign up saying "we love firemen". Obviously the firemen's wives were not happy and the government got involved. May neighbour below had sex with one of them on top of a fire engine.

Having said all that, I take my hat off to the carers of the elderly you speak of. Now, why are they not as cool? Why do people just go after the stereo-types and not say "I dig that man - he looks after the elderly"

I realise it's a stupid question now. That's why there is the saying, "watch out for the quiet guys".
