Stay up all night researching lymphocytosis

Oh well, it was my night off. So, I posted a new topic on here, and then started looking up my latest lab results. I still have elevated lymphocytes and have developed neutropenia. My endocrinologist is worried, so she sent me back to the same oncologist, again, to see what's the matter with my blood. He took blood (this all happened about two weeks ago) just to verify what the endo told him. What's strange is that they gave me a report from a different date and said everything looked good. When I got home and went to bed, I get this call from the nurse saying that my lymphocytes ARE STILL elevated and PLUS my neutrophils are decreasing. I was like WTF? Anyway, I was too sleepy to argue the point. When I did fully awaken, I told my husband about it. I then said I better call her back to see what she was talking about, which I did. I then asked her is this why I'm so tired all the time, and the reason I'm having headaches? She stammered and said she didn't know. I asked her what's causing this? Do I have cancer or what? She said she didn't know, "maybe you should come in and see the doctor". So, I'm going in Monday to see the doctor. He'll, probably, say that "it's just stress" like he did the last time (Heck, I dunno!). I wish that I could get a straight answer.

I showed a doctor at work my labs, and he just said don't get to worrying about the hardcore stuff. Start with the basics first. He then said to find out why "you're anemic". "Find out where you're losing blood from." I know that it's not due to the monthly cycle cause they stopped after the thyroidectomy...

Oh well, I stayed up long enough to take my daughter for her driving lesson. When I get back I'm going to bed.

    I'm so sleepy!

I hope that its nothing serious.

It's good that you have a works doctor who can advise you what to ask. When you go to see the other doctor on Monday, don't budge until you get straight answers!

Sleep well when you get back!

Good luck Ms Mcducket - hope that it is not too serious.

(It would take me all night to learn how to pronounce it)!

Mrs McDucket, just take it one thing at a time and do not worry too much about the what ifs.
My new MIL is a worry wort and goes on and on what things could mean or lead to. This does not help. It has made me much more FACT CONSCIOUS. Using logic and reason and fact finding to discern a matter and the right course of action to remedy it.

I hope you get well soon Ms. McD,

    Take care,

    Anewme

Anxiety can be exhausting in and of itself.

Did staying up all night help you in better understanding or did the research add to your anxiety? Just a thought.

I have trouble sleeping myself and have a bit of an anxiety disorder, so I can relate to the tiredness; but being sick or anemic certainly adds to it.

I don't have any great advice, except that you might want to discuss your anxiety with your doctor as well, and figure out what kind of info is helpful to you and what kind of info is hurtful to you.

Sounds like you need to focus on hope and encouragement and positive treatments with your doc!

Knowledge is power, yes, but sometimes too much info at once can be overwhelming, esp during times of high anxiety.

So sorry you're going through this now. We're here for you, Mrs. McDucket.

    Ms McDuckett,

Hope you get some clearer answers. Let us know what they say.

Well, I was expecting the doctor to talk to me about the lab results; but what he did was a bone marrow biopsy and drew more blood to test for HIV and Hepatitis B. I have to go back next week for the results. (sigh)

Sounds like he is trying to get it right.

Good news! I don't have HIV or hepatitis. The doctor said my lymphocytes are still elevated and that I still have neutropenia, but it's not serious. That it just needs to be watched. Something about myelodysplasia syndromes or possibly getting over mononucleosis. They will just continue to monitor me every so often.

Have you ever seen any information on what they call Shiftwork Sleep Disorder? One of my coworkers is going to a seminar on the topic and if I find anything that might be helpful I'll send you a PM. Apparently shiftwork can mess up your bloodwork and make it appear that you have a constant low-grade infection (elevated lymphocytes), plus you're always fatigued even if you get enough sleep. There's also the inability to go to sleep (insomnia) when you need to sleep, having your sleep cycle interrupted, etc.

Glad to hear that the biggies have been ruled out... maybe you just need an extended vacation! Let's hope!!
