I don't believe the Bible has ever changed. Neither has God. It has been said that God made man in His image and man has been retuning the favor ever since.
People try to make God into something or someone that they can understand from the mind set that they have. If it makes sense that God is an alien and there's a bunch more just like him, you will follow that. If staying on earth forever sounds appealing, then you will follow a utopian version of that. You can find proof-texts to support virtually any religion you want to invent, from the Bible, but if you read the whole thing IN CONTEXT, then this other stuff just falls apart. Only if you can keep people from digging deeper on their own, will you be able to convince them that the Bible says something that it does not.
If you back off of your own reasonings, and read what He really has to say, it is very enlightening.
Look over the 10 commandments. Good rules, right? If everyone abided by them, the world would be pretty nice. Perfect, in fact.
How many have you broken? I venture to say I have broken every last one of them.
So, I go to the judge on the last day, and he is a very good judge. He doesn't play favorites and he doesn't take bribes. His motto: Do the crime, do the time. I've broke every rule in the book, and now I am standing before the judge. I say, "Gee, I am very sorry! Please forgive me!" Now, how is a good judge going to respond? "That is good that you are sorry, but I have to sentence you. You are guilty and you have to pay the price."
Then in walks a guy that I don't even know and says, "I know this person is guilty. But I am willing to pay for their crime, even though I have never done ONE thing wrong in my entire life. Punish me for what this person did. I'll pay the price, no matter what it is. I love this person. I'll do this for them."
How would you feel toward that person? They just saved you from the electric chair! Wouldn't you accept their gift and be thankful toward them? All you have to do is accept their gift. Then, since you are so grateful, you feel compelled to tell your friends and family about how this guy saved your life! As a result of them saving you, you start doing awesome things for others. You have a new beginning, and you are not going to waste it. You will be forever thankful to that guy who saved you! He's your new best friend and you will trust him the rest of your life.
This world is so wrapped up in the "feel-good" religions. The Bible doesn't promise you a "feel-good" experience, when you come to Christ. In fact, it lets you know that it won't be easy. The peace comes from knowing that He is in charge and that you belong to Him. No one can snatch you away.
I went through hell on earth a few years ago. I could never have made it through something like that, before I knew Jesus. He made Himself apparent over and over in that time. I have no doubt that He is there. He is exactly as the Bible portrays Him. I'm living proof. He walked me thorugh the fire, and I have the scars, but I am still here and I am still a Christian. Even when it doesn't "feel-good"! Even when I don't understand "why". I put all my trust in Him. Because I obeyed Jehovah and came to His Son for forgiveness, I am now a child of God. I finally "get it" and I will never lose it!
What other "religion" can offer that? Perfect security and a relationship with the one and only true and living God?
