Doom And Gloom Deceptions

Do Watchtower writers ever feel the least amount of shame in grasping for doom and gloom across more than a century?

Do they ever experience any sense of conscience in heralding causes for fear that have nothing to do with "Armageddon"?

When nuclear war protests were in vogue, did they herald these while knowing that "Armageddon" could never be

    a nuclear war?

What's the latest in the Watchtower arsenal of fearmongering? Global Warming? Terrorism?

Allow me to show just how easily these latest causes for doom and gloom might evaporate. Evaluation Engineering magazine

( May 06 page 6) carries an editorial entitled "Fully Charged in About 8 Minutes" which details the latest breakthroughs in lithium-ion

batteries. "Altair Technologies ... has developed a lithium-ion battery that could enable an electric vehicle to perform equally as well

as a conventional car". It could carry three times more power than past batteries and be recharged 20,000 times.

Now, consider the effect that a really powerful battery could have on:

terrorism ( what, no more money?)

global warming ( I can charge my car from my solar panels!)

Arab governments ( hey, we don't have jobs! Let's riot!)

inflation ( "Oil drops to $15 a barrel")

world peace ( keep your oil, we don't need it)

The above is JUST ONE technology that could profoundly change our world for the better - a really good battery.

There are others already in development - and before you can say "fossil fuels", keep in mind that huge amounts of generating

capacity go to waste because almost no electricity is needed at 3 am ( besides the windmills popping up and solar panels

getting cheaper). Can I tell you about NASA's technology to produce ethanol from discarded rice stalks? How about Austria's

profitable wood pellet industry - so successful that they are now lobbying the EU for mass development - without reducing the level

of forested land? How about palm oil diesel development in tropical areas? Heard about the "billiard ball" nuclear reactor that can't

melt down, no matter what fails or what operator is asleep or drunk?

It's going to happen - it's just a matter of time - and is being accelerated by $70 oil.

I suppose if these issues get fixed, the Awake can still feature pictures of starving kids ( that they won't feed and that

aren't Witnesses, such that they will die at Armageddon). You can always find some fear to monger, if you really try.

The Watchtower leaders have always used fear to motivate the troops.

I was just reading "Crisis of Conscience" again, and in it Ray Franz quoted the 1893 the Watchtower magazine prediction that the world would be in near-anarchy and upheaval within 12 to 14 years, and surely the whole system would cease to exist by 1914, the end of the Gentile Times.

In the 1970's, I clearly remember an Awake! article about global COOLING, not warming. On the front cover it depicted a cartoon-like globe clearly suffering from the chills. Another ice age was surely coming.

And in the 1980's during the height of the nuclear-war scare, they published that atrocious "Survival into the New World" volume, highlighting in its very first chapter that the world was on the edge of a nuclear conflict.

The WT Society obviously believes nothing motivates better than fear.

    LOL!

This is the religion that taught that global warming from some supposed "water canopy" was once so rampant that the entire planet was a semi-tropical climate --even at the poles.

How could they possibly turn around now and claim that this is a bad thing?

Oh, wait.....We're talking about the Witnesses, right? ......Never mind......

Knowing these things makes me happy about the future. Mr Frass and I do our bit to contribute. JWs just want everything to go to hell so they can plant paradise on top of it.

One that the R&F really cling to is that the world today -the last days- is worse than it was 100 years ago or 1000 years ago. This is simply not true. Nobody living today would want to live in medievil times or Ghengis Khan days or when the great plague killed off a third of Europe.
What would the JW mags have said had they been around in those days?
Today living standards are higher and life span is at least 20 years longer.
Yes, parts of Africa are starving but when was that not an issue on this planet.
Neanderthals, fully homosapiens are now extinct. I suppose Armageddon came ten thousand years too soon for them.
