I bought it a couple of days ago when it came out...it's amazing how much their music has developed since the last album.

Since my liberation from the Organization, I've found their lyrics and music to inspire me, it always did, but I never really knew why. Now the lyrics strike the same chord...only harder.

    Here's a sample...

    Vicarious - Tool
    Eye on the the TV
    'Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor it happens to be, like...
    "Killed by the husband"
    "Drowned by the ocean"
    "Shot by his own son"
    "She used a poison
    in his tea...kissed him goodbye"
    That's my kind of story
It's no fun 'til someone dies

    Don't look at me like
    I am a monster
    Frown out your one face
    But with the other
    Stare like a junkie
    Into the TV
    Stare like a zombie

While the mother holds her child
    Watches them die
    Hands to the sky crying,
    "Why, oh why?"

Cause I need to watch things die... from a distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
YOU ALL NEED IT TOO, DON'T LIE

Why can't we just admit it?
Why can't we just admit it?
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing
    Neither the brave nor bold
Will write as the story's told
We won't give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die... from a good safe distance
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same, so...

Why can't we just admit it?

    Blood like rain come down
    Drown my grave and ground

    Part vampire
    Part warrior
    Carnivore and Voyeur
    Stare at the transmittal
    Sing to the death rattle

La, la, la, la, la, la-la-lie (x4)

    Credulous at best
    Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
Pull your head on out you hippies
    please, and give a listen
Shouldn't have to say it all again

The universe is hostile, so impersonal
Devour to survive... so it is, so it's always been

    We all feed on tragedy
It's like blood to a vampire

Vicariously I live while the whole world dies
    Much better you than I

    Thoughts?

    WLG,

I have been so busy with my classes that I didn't even know the new album was out. I googled to see if they were touring and lo and behold they are playing tonight in Oakland CA. tonight. Darn, missed that too. IT was sold out. Rats.

Will listen to the album tomorrow during the commute, (downloaded it tonight once I knew it existed.)

    Thanks.

I haven't had the opportunity to hear the album yet. The single "Vicarious" was a little disappointing, sounding a bit derivative....

bought the new cd. i think its great, tho i need to listen to it many more times to fully appreciate it. their music has opened up my mind to a lot of things, and im still "in" the truth(if thats what it is, tho i dont think so). not only are they amazing musically, but their lyrics really make one think. danny carey is an amazing drummer. the cd with the 3d images is pretty cool too.

I just received my copy of the new TOOL album yesterday, and I have listened to it several times (while gardening). At first I thought as Leolaia said--a bit derivitive. Not the masterpiece that Lateralus is. But as the music is soaking in to my head, I am beginning to feel its subtleties. I really like the title song "10,000 Days", as well as the one called "Right in Two". The new album does not feel as edgy as their earlier work, not as overtly spiritual as Lateralus. But I am wondering if the state of the life of MJK is part of the equation. I understand he has begun a project as a vintner. Perhaps mid-life has made him a bit more mellow.

I bought 10,000 days the day it was released here. I think it's amazing; even more so than lateralus.

That's a morbid rendition of the word vicarious.

I dont think its as good as lateralus either, but it is still a damn fine effort.

I managed to score a ticket to their stop here in town, so Im stoked for that.
