Often I notice people around here, driving slowly in front of each garbage can, on trash day, and some stop to pick up things that they think they can sell and make money with or for themselves.
Have you ever done this or witnessed it?
Did you ever go through other people's trash to find something interesting?

In Florida, that had a garbage pick up day, called bulk day. I use to drive through the rich neighborhoods, so see what they would throw out. Never dug through a trash can, but did get a wall unit, and a hutch one time. It was like brand new!

I wonder if poor JW's would be allowed to do this....Remember, Jehovah gives us all that we need.....
I could imagine a an Elder seeing a poor JW doing this and he would be councelled, I'M sure.....

I know of one Witness who went out on "garbage day" and picked up some very old luggage and an old doctor's medicine bag that turned out to be worth several hundred dollars.

My ex-father in law used to garbage pick. I've never indulged. Always felt too conspicuous.

I have and I continue to. I don't care what people think.
I sell on ebay and I also moderate a local freecycle list. I have found some beautiful antiques that needed just a little work. I have found mirrors and tons of antique dishes.
Last week someone left a perfectly beautiful little tykes girls make up table out at the curb with a bunch of other items. I picked it up and tossed it into the back of my truck. I donated it to my son's schools garage sale.

If I saw something intersting on the top of a trash can, probably i would take it, but I wouldn't go through trash in order to find something......Thats just me.

When the bulk of students leave for the summer, they often leave behind most of their dorm room furnishings. It's wasteful but I guess they don't have room/ don't want to haul this back home for the summer. You can find some cool stuff.
