We don't need manufacturing to support the economy, we can all work in call centres, selling each other stuff we can buy with our credit cards. ; That is all we need to have a healthy economy, isn't it?

Even the call centres are being moved abroad, especially to places like India. Have you called up one recently? You used to be greated with a friendly Glaswegian, now you're greated with a friendly Indian... who is actually *IN* India!!

No, it doesn't matter. We don't need manufacturing to support the economy, we can all work in call centres, selling each other stuff we can buy with our credit cards. That is all we need to have a healthy economy, isn't it?

Actually, from what I've been reading about this event, it seems that Britain is a victim of her own economic success. The HP plant is having trouble recruiting skilled production workers, whereas the fully staffed Heinz plant in the Netherlands has excess capacity. A sensible business decision for Heinz to make, but it could bite them in the arse in the short term if they've underestimated British attachment to the product.

No need to panic about an imploding manufacturing sector just yet. If you want to buy a British brown sauce and stick it to Heinz, here's how:

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

HP sauce is British and should stay British, it is part of our culture and tradition.

A nice bacon sandwich with HP sauce is paradise.

HP Sauce is THE sauce to have with a fry-up at breakfast. Not like that horrible American ketchup nonsense..............Simon, that looks alot like the A-1 Sauce we use here for steaks........what does a "fry-up breakfast" consist of?

I saw with shock a little while ago that HP sauce was made by 'Danone' - that's a continental European company, isn't it?

Do they still make Lea & Perrins (the original) Worcestershire sauce in Worcester?

A 'fry-up' consists of some or all of: bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, baked beans, mushrooms, fried potatoes, kidney.

I guess if it was called "London Sauce" they would not have been able to move it. However I see the irony with something of such a traditional British name.
