I suppose in some context it would also have to be a place since in Revelation 20 the devil is bound and held captive there for the millenial reign , however exactly where would be anybodies guess . I don't think the locusts are demons . Apparently these plagues were supposed to make men repent and turn back from worshipping demons as stated in verse 20 .

To me the worst thing of all is that the Watchtower indentifies Abaddon with Jesus. First they say Jesus is a little or secondary god, then they say he's Michael the Archangel, then Abaddon the angel of the Abyss. I think the scripture talking about the blind leading the blind and how they will both fall into the pit is pretty applicable to the Watchtower. Everything I have looked up on Abaddon points to him being Satanic, but yet they try to say he's Jesus.

I don't think it makes any sense to say it's in referrence to satan since the point of the plagues was to direct worship away from the demons and the idols of gold and silver and copper and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk ... (Rev :20) The only kings that true christians acknowledge in that respect are jesus and jehovah , jesus was given all authority in heaven and earth ............

Personally, I would'nt trust a religion that could'nt tell Jesus from Satan.

I mean, would you trust a doctor who could'nt tell your brain from your rectum????

    Cheers

LOL --- moggy . I think it took them awhile to do away with the hell fire doctrine like most other religions probly would say that passage is about satan . I think some even thought it was talking about modern warfare with helicopters and such . It's highly symbolic that's for sure .

The Abyss was another clear example of Greek conceptions finding acceptance in Jewish thought. In the Greek mythology the abyss was the underworld of Pluto and realm of demons. G.Luke shares this concept at 8:31 where the demons beg Jesus not to make them return there. Revelation does not use images and words in strictly consistant ways because it draws from multiple sources that had each used a larger body of images and symbols for their own agenda.

I like the way the JWs make grandiose claims linking important events in the Bible to themselves, in this case they are the curse coming out of the abyss, what a strong attitude towards self delusion they have. Their coming was predicted in Christ's own revelation to John nearly 2000 years before they appeared! They have to be important and authentic.

They have flip flopped back and forth over the years over Abaddon being Satan or Jesus. I think it is rediculous that an organization claiming to be the only true Christians on earth doesn't know the difference between Satan & Jesus.

I should have said the Greek name Hades. Pluto was the same character but the Roman name. Tartarus, Hades and abyss as realm of the demons are all NT words and concepts drawn from Greek mythology.
