Our property connects near a national forest and you never know what is going to pop out of the woods and where!
Today, looking through tall grass in a field sat / laid a big fat mama bear peering down the hillside towards the road and beside her were 2 cute little cubs leaping and playing.
They were darling and very, very shiney and healthy.
Has anyone else seen any this year? They can put a smile on anyones face!

Was this a brown bear, black bear, or grizzly?
I agree with Stephen Colbert: Bears are a threat and are plotting behind our backs!
They were black bears which is what we have around here. A couple of weeks ago we went out and around a mile or two down the road there were 2 big moose... couple of days later we saw another one.
This is really a super place to live. These animals lift the spirits of even the most sour of pusses. I am once again in heaven to be here.
I hope you do not mind me popping in these little events every now and again. Hopefully one of these times I will try to get a photo.

I've found fresh piles of bear doo... but havn't seen the bear yet...
Though I have seen 3 bobcats this year (think my freinds new chickens are attracting them)
I love wildlife...from a safe distance. lol I'll bet they were adorable!
All we get around here is deer (and not so much of them any more with all the houses going up) ...and saw a turkey the other day too.

A month ago you talked of moving. I thought, oh no. She might never be able to get back to the beautiful country if she moves to the town.
Im sure its tough in the winter months, but paradise in the spring huh?

Oh how wonderful to see that!
Last fall at our cabin up north we saw a bear. A neighbour told us he lives at the end of our road! That was something the real estate agent didn't tell us about the neighbours! (We are the only people on our road.)
When we were up there one weekend this past winter a fox came right up to my husband one evening! What a beautiful little creature.
I haven't see it this spring yet. I'm hoping the hunters didn't decide to go for it!

Cabin in the woods, I can understand that it's wonderful to view wildlife from nearby but aren't you afraid of these bears since they are dangerous and have attacked humans in the past?

UPDATE: Finally (sunday afternoon) seen the bear & her two cubs... The Mother Bear was just coming down a tree while her cubs were still at the top... 'bout 50 feet up the hill... Needless to say I didn't hang out to long (no camera No reason to hang out)
Now I'll be carrying a camera when I leave the property...

We had a bear in a joshua tree up here that I didn't get to see but someone took a picture of it and posted it in the paper. The other day a road runner was trying to kill a snake in the yard but Dave walked out and the roadie left. The snake stayed behind and was on the patio. He is beautiful and unharmed.
Our yard is sancuary for all the wild critters. We have 1 of 5 acres fenced so the quail, bunnies, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, all come to eat and nest in our safe trees. The coyotes can't get them. The baby bunnies have been so adorable this year, I seen two little ones chasing each other around a big boulder. The chipmunks and the cactus wrens argue on who gets to play in the dog house.
My niece and her family came and said, "this is very relaxing and entertaining just sitting here". It truly is.
