The name Jehovah and demons.

The Society teaches that if unexplainable things are happening in your home, then shouting out the name Jehovah will cause them to stop. As you probably know, this is meant to be because these strange things are caused by demons, which may have posessed an object from your home, which was previously used in demonic activity. But, supposedly, since they fear Jehovah, shouting out this name can cause these things to stop, even if only temporarily. Does anyone have any experience of this, do they know if it actually works, or if it's just another thing the Society has wrong?

I know this won't mean the Society is correct in their other teachings, it was just something I have been thinking about.

I don't know where my 10 year old heard this, but she does it when she has to go downstairs at night to get water... all alone and dark, and she freaks a bit so says "jehovah". It told her it was disrespectful and superstitious. I suppose it works for her to chase away the willies, but I've told her that she's brave and strong and... yeah. I hope it ends soon. I try to accompany her into the lairs of my dark kitchen so that she doesn't have to be alone. Hopefully she'll one day outgrow it.

Yahweh/Jehovah is the verbalization (as technically incorrect as it may be) of the god of the Jews and Christians. If you have faith in a Judeo-Christian religion, than yes, it could have such power over somethings perceived as "demons".

I've used Jehovah as well as the names of other entities to similar purposes.

Since I've had no demon attacks lately, I wouldn't know. However, I find it unlikely that I would shout a name if something strange happened... I'd probably grab my camera.

Yes. We've all heard of this claim and I have heard individual stories - not that many though. Who knows? Could be an attention-getter by some who are drama "queens and kings".

I think all the demon contacts I had as a JW kid were entirely imaginary. Funny how the demons suddenly stopped harassing me right at the time I stopped believing in them.

I wonder why demons would be afraid of a human shouting out a word? Why would they care? It's just a word. Does saying the word "Jehovah" conjure up the deity himself to appear and vanquish them?

Jeez, if it works with beings as powerful as demons, it should work with annoying humans such as telemarketers, Mormons, and email spammers. I think I'll try it the next time I get a Viagra email; I'll respond "Jehovah" and see if they are vanquished.

Wasn't there a song about this in the Kingdom Melodies? I am sorry, I don't mean to poke fun at anyone who believes in demons. JMHO

Yes, I was taught that and totally believed it. Im not sure now if its true or not. Its probably rubbish, it sounds a bit superstitious doesnt it?

I used to 'call on jehovahs name' while clutching my bible and praying lots. I wasnt being attacked by demons, I was just so frightened (following demon stories at KH) I thought I was! Very sad.

So many of those stories are from some third world country in Africa or Asia that still has shamanism and witch doctors.

This is all psychological games that the cult uses to frighten the R&F, demons may exist but they don't attack humans unless someone knowingly invites them and they certainly can't enter the physical world, the rest is mythology. That's why so many dubs report demon attacks but very few from mainstream religions do so.

I tried saying the name "Jehovah" frequently when my ex in-laws were around, and yet they never went away.
