Metatron made a great point about how JWs might be leaving in more earnest because of being beaten up by the talks that the brothers give. "Do more!"....."Are we decorating our homes more than we should be?"....etc. Did you suddenly figure out that you were just sick and tired of being berated every week???
Did You Feel "Beat Up" By The Elders/Organization???

Not any more. Sunday will be my 5th anniversary of posting on JWD, 4 years of not attending (that includes weddings, funerals, and memorial). No calls on us any more. Of course, if we put up a flag in the front yard we might get some action.

A poster here put 2 flags out and he got df'd or disassociated.

I knew when I was doing enough for them, and didn't want to hear them say "do more" !!!
Since they weren't reasonable, I left.
I never like having 5 hours of meetings a week, so I took things in my hands and missed many meetings to even things out.
I'm in control !!! and they didn't like it.

So as to not highjack your thread, "beat up" not one bit. Pissed is more accurate.

I've told this story before...of a visiting CO giving a talk about "doing more". He said (paraphrased), "If you aren't doing everything in your power in serving Jehovah, then, why bother at all?" The point being that we were spending too much time on non-theocratic pursuits such as school and work and recreation.
This came at about the time that I was starting to have some pretty heavy doubts. The little ones that had remained suppressed for so long were finally popping through and they led to bigger questions and deeper doubts.
I thought about what the CO said and decided he was actually right. I wasn't doing everything possible and I was tired of being constantly pressured to do more, so....I quit. Period. I became inactive and started my own search for "the truth".

Undercover, that's what I call a very effective talk by the CO!

I felt "beat up" on a more personal level, threatened with a jc if I didn't stop talking to a da'd brother.
I was having doubts at the time so I saved them the trouble and quit.

LOL...except it had the opposite desired effect.
Maybe I should call him and thank him...
