Today is Tuesday -its book study day. I think its great ‘darcy’ came here and I wish more active JW would come. She strikes me as being open-minded and very independent in her style, behaviour and choice of words (like “what the hell”). The WTS would do well with more of these. If she is happy as a JW I am happy for her. Don’t think she wants to get into any heated debates at this time and can respect that. It’s ok to come here just for the fun of it. If she wants to discuss something I’m sure she’ll let us know. Freetosee

When you read through Genesis, it must be clear that Jehovah (I don't care it's incorrect pronounciation) doesn't like the wimps

    Darcy -

Who are the "wimps" that Jehovah doesn't "like"?

When you answer, then I can comment. Thanks.

Welcome Darcy! The eclairs sound yummy.

You stated; Thinking solely of the scriptures, and flinging the Society to the side for a moment, it seems that most of what Mat. 24 had to say about the signs of the times are being most significantly fulfilled right now in our day

Actually according to WT records (2005 Service reports) there has been ZERO progress spreading the "good news (and then the end will come)" in a country that contains 1.3 Billion people, China. They have missed most Middle Eastern countries too.

The WTBTS is nothing more than a doomsday cult that has been predicting the end of the world as long as they have been gathering. Love~Kate

If you are as intellectual as you say then you would surely realize that the WTS is a lie, and always has been from the very beginning. Possibly you and your friends only stay with the Org for friendship purposes, and nothing more. Given the COMPLETE history and founding of the IBS and later the WTS how could anyone in there right mind believe the crap they dish they out?

Ask yourself one question - If the witnesses are the true religion, then why do the accept the Bible as the complete word of God when in fact false religion (who the picture as the harlot) was the one that not only compiled it, but decreed which books would be holy and canons - all the while burning hundreds if not thousands of christian works during the same time period?

    None whatsoever.

Darcy says: I suppose it's only reasonable to say that a few years back I declared myself atheist, then moved to agnosticism, and then to general apathy (can we stop arguing now?)

I say: We are not aware of why it is reasonable, you lost all belief in God you are saying. Were the elders aware of this?

, and I even looked into witchcraft at one point (mostly b/c I was being encouraged to associate with a Wiccan study)

    Or this?

... but now I'm back here with the witnesses,

*****and I feel most comfortable here.*****

I say: always a surefire way to scale how correct or true ones respective religion is.

At those times, I never initiated contact with apostates, but now I'm not intimidated by it.

I say: I myself have never been in a kingdom hall, and have never studied or even taken a tract from a Jehovah's Witness. Unfortunate at the moment, since I really would love to talk to them about the hideous False Watchtower Prophet

Darcy says: Maybe I like the Witnesses cause I'm laid back. See, I don't like this idea of only having 80 years to live.

I say: you don't like it, so the Watchtowers solution is perfect for you. convenient

Darcy says: So, the Witnesses suit me very nicely

I say: The *Fundamental* LDS (to be honest, the book of Mormon, Joseph Smith himself) suits a man very nicely when he wants to get his honky tonk badonkadonk on with not one but 17 fresh faced sensibly frocked sisters. How does it being convenient to ones desires/fantasies prove much about it?

How could the Watchtower possibly be right about paradise earth, *which in my opinion sounds frightfully like life would have been if God had created man without the possibility of choice , in other words, without the possibility of doing wrong, also without the possibly of truly loving him. That doesn't sound like God's past endeavor, I doubt it will be His future, to automaton mankind* when they have not gotten ONE single prophecy right?(Please look at Deutoronomy, my goodness, was God lying?) Not ONE has come to bear. These are words Jehovah did NOT SPEAK.

Darcy says: since I'd like to take my time to study everything imaginable, and sure it's a leap of faith, but if they are right, then all's the better.

I don't think you are being entirely truthful, but that is ok, I think that by nature this is an evil religion that is spiritually deranged and deceptive. In other words, it's not just intellectual, my brother/sister, in a screwtape letters sense, you've got bigger obstacles.
Try examining the history of the Watch Tower, you won't need anything but their very own publications. False prophets tend to give themselves away when their prophecies turn out ....false. Luckily for you their is a marvelous paper trail.

Darcy says: And I just don't have these problems y'all talk about with them.

So your one subjective seat of observation is enough to topple what is it?? 68,000 members, and 1,000,000 posts of experiences, information, what we would call a MOUNTAIN of circumstantial yet weighty evidence? And this is one messageboard, one web address. This is not the whole canoli.

Not all Mormon women will have crazy powertrip husbands. This does not mean that religion is not a belief system that is riddled with mysoginistic and chauvenistic doctrine/teaching.

Darcy says: Of course, I think a lot has changed. Not to offend, but why doesn't anyone here quote from recent literature instead of all this stuff that's years old.

I say: "Who controls the past controls the present, who controls the present controls the future"

I think this is a cognitive dissonnance tactic on your part. I think a Mormon would love it also if you didn't bring up the fact that the Book of Mormon has been altered 3,000 times since its original printing even though it was WRITTEN IN ENGLISH. No translation required. But they should be entitled to know that, as you are entitled to know the history of the organization you belong to.

Funny you should say that because if I am not mistaken, the Watchtower LOVES to bring up all Christendoms nasty stinky laundry, not from just decades but CENTURIES past. Oh, that's one problem, the Watchtower has only been in existence for 135 years.

Oh, and wasn't it 1914 that Jesus spiritually returned to pick the Watchtower, shouldn't the history leading up to that be incredibly relevant, as well as the work he apparently did through the organization after that

darcy: That's like criticicizing Windows 95, instead of ;examining Windows XP.

Windows 95 does NOT make the claim to be the sole channel of communication to God, (though I don't see how the never errant "truthful words" that come out of the FDS since it's very beginning ought to be compared to 'criticicizing' Windows 95, while if I don't misunderstand examining Windows xp? sorry? We should stop quoting the Bible altogether, after all, thats not just years, but hundreds and hundreds of years old, translated from very ancient texts. Maybe we'll just criticize that and than examine only the most up to date WT publications?)

    Watchtower 1/15/1959 Pages 40 & 41 Par 13 & 14

also, Windows does not invite one to investigate their history so they can be assured it is that channel

Watchtower May 15, 1957 pp.313-315 Appreciating Basic Christian Publications

…Their zeal for knowledge may even prompt them to dig back into things that were published long before they came into the truth, expanding and deepening their understanding, and ever growing in Christian maturity... Do you dig out older publications to expand and deepen your knowledge on subjects about which questions arise? Have you really studied these earlier publications?... How is your background of knowledge? ... Never think: "Oh, I know most of that." For you will find, indeed, that you do not and that you will be strengthened by your additional study...once you have completed your study of them you can then look to even older publications... Only by studying earlier publications and digging back through previous issues of The Watchtower kept in the library at your local Kingdom Hall. There is much in the way of spiritual riches and aids toward mature knowledge in these earlier publications, and their study is most certainly worth your time.

Oh, and lets not forget that the pauline epistles were written long before the Gospels. Is there REALLY any truth to the whole thing or is it one big ass fabrication?

Plain truth... you will grow old and die in this world while people continue to believe the bullshit religion spews...

How refreshing your experience is one so positive! You add validity to a little theory that I have: That the WTS will drastically change as we all knew it or die out. I believe it will change and evolve, allowing people more freedom of thought, expression, etc. It (while we're using operating systems as analogies) is simply too smart and cunning an "organism" to not change with the evolving human spirit.

You are definitely an example of one who has moved away from the fundamental teachings. Good for you!

Hope you stick around. I like free-spirited, open-minded cheerful souls. As long as they don't keep harping on how gloriously happy they are all the time as if they are a small child whistling past the graveyard, that is.

    Enjoy and welcome, welcome, welcome!!

    Love and Light,

    ~Brigid
