  Also Elsewhere, realize it's a holiday weekend and it's the height of the tourist season - hotels can charge a premium - and remember they charge a $3.50 per person per night occupancy tax plus the 13.625 percent whatever the hell tax.

  If you stay in Jersey - you'll save on hotels but you'll won't be in the pulse of the city - did that and my second trip I stayed on Manhattan.

  Hotel Wolcott is $175 average during that time - if there's any consolation they have free muffins in the morning!

  Did a quick search on expedia yesterday and the Milford Plaza was $160 a night. Great location.

  We like to stay at the Manhattan Inn on 8th Ave. and W. 30th - close to Penn Station. I think it's considered a hostel, so you might want to check hostels.com.
  
  Rooms are tiny, but clean and you can meet people from all over the world on the rooftop patio at night. It's around $90 a night for a single with bathroom.

  That would be great! I promise to tip-toe around and stay out of your hair. How close to Manhattan are you? I suspect I'll spend most of my time there seeing the sights.

  Hemp, If I cannot find a spare room I'm tempted to do the hostel or B&B thing. Will I get my own room with my own bathroom or will it be more of a communal thing?
