Your unfinished waterbed story reminds me of one of my own.
A young man found a wet spot in the middle of his waterbed. He took it outside and refilled it with water to locate the leak. He lost control of the big bag of water, it rolled down the hill in to a thornbush. The young man threw up his hands and bought himself a regular mattress.
The next morning, he woke up to a wet spot in the middle of his bed. His ceiling had sprung a leak.
