The Yorkshire Ripper Killed umpteen women and is a JW now. If i was an active JW i wouldn`t like the thought of living with him forever, after the way he killed all those women. What do you think about the fact that they have accepted him to the org? I can`t believe that they are that desperate!!

Isn't this old news? Where was he baptised? I don't suppose the WTBTS can reject him - after all, he hasn't got the means or opportunity to sin.

Imagine - resurrected to meet your murderer!

Yes it is old news, but i am relatively new on here so haven`t seen any posts on it. It is just something that has bothered me since i found out, and wondered what anyone else thought about it. Are there any old posts on it?

This has been discussed before , albeit inaccurately , eg http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/84353/1.ashx

My understanding is that he occasionally has been visited in the past by the brothers who are responsible for Broadmoor , but has not been called on for many years. He isn't and never has been , a witness.

dozy, thanks for that information. I have found that sometimes people are called on by JWs or even study for awhile then stop and have no more contact. I have had these people either identify themselves as being JWs or by the neighbors as being JWs which confused me, because I had never heard of them. Further investigation showed that they had only studied awhile.

    That is interesting, Dozy.

The way I see it, the JWs are between a rock and a hard place - is there a scriptural basis to deny the Ripper the wholesome association of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses?

I thought it was all about forgiveness and redemption (cue angelic music).

The news items merely said that the Ripper guy says he is a JW. Now in the minds of non-JWs unfamiliar with the WTS rules, they might believe that is all it takes. I would believe it more if a JW said he was. There have been articles about a Cary Verse (convicted pedophile) who said he had a JW connection and there was quite a bit in the article of comments from JWs being willing to have him come to the KH. Now if there were comments like that about this Yorkshire Ripper, it might give it more credibility that he is a JW or actively associated with them.

JWs visit the prisons here frequently, even have weekly meetings with a group and individual bible studies, but that does not make any these prisoners JWs.

Interesting story, never really heard this before. I've allways found it wierd how many would gravitate their studies and visits to those who are on the fringes of society. I can't tell you how many studies i've been on where the people who we studied with didn't even reallly know why we where there. It's especially true of this area.

I have visited the prison around here. There was a brother designated to care for any interest within it and at that time there were several inmates attending a study. I deputised for the regular elder a few times. It was interesting and the men were quite "normal"and friendly people to meet.

As for actually becoming a witness, One prisoner had got baptized inside and used to send in field service reports and the cong used to send him tapes of the meetings. The authorities were quite co operative. Most of the lads though just drifted in and out of the study group, as you might expect.

I think that even the dimmest elders would take some convincing that Peter Sutcliffe had repented and was ready to stand among "Jehovah's people". More likely as we say, that he showed some interest ....
