This is what I was referring to and I have come across it many times. Fortunately not very often these days as we do not have the endless atheists versus believers threads that were prevalent a few years ago. You only arrived a year ago so I suppose it is understandable that you haven't seen them. I take it this is why you asked for an example, I hope you weren't accusing me of lying.

No, I was just asking for an example.

Your statement: "This is what I was referring to and I have come across it many times. I've been on the forum for about 20 months, and I agree completely with your statement. I was surprised to see the level of childish interruptions and attempts to derail or hijack the 'other' camp's OPs, from both theists and atheists. I see very little of that now.

As for this OP, I can't add much. I am not a spokesperson for atheism. My atheism is mine and mine alone, and it occurred naturally after decades of observation and evaluation. I've been a theist; although I sometimes am a wiseass about the topic, I have respect for believers. I don't have respect for those who present themselves as the new GB/FDS/Sage/Prophet and who have the correct scriptural interpretation and a special relationship with god. And I never will; they deserve all of our condemnation. But I'm a wise-ass about most topics; I'm not bad I was just drawn that way.

I also do not know any 'asshole" angry atheists, though I am certain they exist, just as there are angry asshole theists, angry asshole environmentalists, angry asshole liberals, angry asshole conservatives and so on. This OP would have had as much relevance if the term 'asshole atheism' had been replaced with any of those, which is why I haven't participated. The premise of the OP is certainly spot on, but it would be just as spot on regardless of the category.

The data suggests, as I've pointed out before, the more secular or atheistic a nation/state/region/individual is, the more likely it is to be educated, intelligent, functional, happy, and one would assume - less angry, as a result. But of course there are many many intelligent, educated, functional and happy theists.

I saw a talk one time by Richard Dawkins about the order of the universe and the precise fine tuning it takes to produce life on this planet and how that might lead to believe in god or intelligent design but since we don’t believe in god…………………….given enough time and space and possibilities from the big bang there must be millions if not billions of solar systems with life like ours or even superior to us, we just haven’t found them. There is nothing remarkable about us.

I then realized I just wasted 30 minutes of my life. There wasn’t a lick of concrete evidence to support of it. It was complete rubbish.

I just wish people would realize there is an entire industry pretending to be promoting the cause “ Science “ which is just anti-christian rubbish. They are just selling books and taking your money so you can feel you have a smug sense of moral superiority . If anyone I thought could see though this bullshit if should be ex-witnesses.

Real science has nothing to do with religion.

One of the reasons I don't consider myself an atheist is because of the elitism - or as you describe "asshole-ism" - that emanates from way too many atheists. When asked if I am an atheist, my response is that I am not one of the "cool kids" and thus do not subscribe to their asshole theories.

Real science has nothing to do with religion. - Clambake

Science is the best tool we have to test many of the claims of religion.

When somebody asserts that humans were a special creation that is a scientific claim. There never was a global flood - this is a fact that belongs to science. The bible can be scrutinised by the scientific method and shown to be flawed. Claims regarding the efficacy of prayers for healing can be tested by science and shown to be empty promises.

Religious people make truth claims all the time that trespass on the domain of science. So science has a lot to do with religion.

Science “ which is just anti-christian rubbish.

Then, by all means, please stop using the internet, cell phones, cars, watching television, eating food, using medicine, seeing doctors, flying, taking a train, using anything with a battery or electricity or wearing clothes made in the past 100 years.

All of those are things science, not Jesus, has given the world. Put your money where your mouth is and live by your convictions. Otherwise you are an utter hypocrite interested only in promoting ignorance.

Real science has nothing to do with religion.

You got it 100% right. Real science has zero to do with bronze age death cults and those who worship blood gods.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear but someone like Richard Dawkins writing anti-Christian books and going on public speaking tours debating christian apologetics isn't real science. I wish people would realize their is an entire industry taking your money to give you a smug sense of morality superiority. It the same reason JWs manage to suck people into their cause.

Real science is being a doctor, curing diseases, being an engineer, working on the electric car etc etc.

It just bugs me how everyone with a library card and a facebook page posting anti-Christian memes figures they are an evolutionary biologist now.

What I am referring to is the belligerent, hateful atheism that smacks of trolls and other types who want to derail conversation or comments at any cost.

So in a thread about what arseholes atheists are, we have been called arseholes by three different posters who presumably don't count themselves as atheists and zero theists have been called names. I see how that works.

Edit. I spoke too soon! lol

Not really. You have only described some professions that rely on scientific knowledge.

'Real' science requires that knowledge produced by the scientific method is 1.)valid and 2.) reliable. Validity is dependent upon the method of measurement being accurate. Reliability is dependent upon consistent results over time.

Problems arise when the scientific method is not followed correctly. The method itself is infallible. It is the scientists and those people who exploit scientific findings, or promote/practice non-scientific methods, that are fallible.
