Well, it's funny...while lots of people are heading to my state for summer vacation, I am trying to go someplace else! I like to see places I haven't been to yet, see new things.

All dressed up and no cash to go. After being on the job for twentyfive years (have 27 as of this June), I get six weeks vacation time (as well as twelve floater days). But alas, I have child support so I don't have much money to go anywheres'. LOL. Never been a big lets go somehwere on vacation kinda guy, anyway. Maybe a day trip someplce thats fun, and then back home again. I used to have tons of projects to do around the house and tackled those things during my vacation weeks. But, uh, the X got the house. At first, this kinda bugged me. But after not having to mow the lawn for the last eighteen months or clean out gutters and junk like that, I don't mind not having it too much. Yea, she can have the house.

When I retire, I would like to dedicate my life to those things I never got to do in my working years. Some of those things are; Hike the Appalachian Trail (the whole freakin trail, I mean). See the Grand Canyon. Go back and see the Titans. Visit Cananda. Definately see Alaska. I got twelves year to to go to retirement, and if I sacrifice now, I should prolly be able to do these kinda things. Thanks for letting me dream a little this morning.

    Steve,

Before you start your hike on the Appalachian trail, be sure to read "A Walk in the Woods," by Bill Bryson. Informative and hilarious!

A trip I want to take someday is the drive from Duluth MN through northern Wisconsin, through the upper peninsula of Michigan down to Detroit area and visit the Henry Ford Museum and see the Ford home place at Dearborn. That'd be a nice two week road trip for me from South Dakota.

I already live in the prettiest part of the country so I don't need to travel to see beautiful scenery. I've been all around this country except the NE states, and so far, I think Sioux Falls South Dakota is the best place in the world to live (or visit).

I prefer to go to natural places, mountains with forests, lakes and rivers, or nice beaches next to mountains, places where one can camp fish, look for wild fruit and mushrooms rather than be locked up in a hotel room. It's great with some nice company and music.

OK, I've been reading online about this book, since your kind suggestion. I gotta go and get a copy of it today! Thank you for the idea Parakeet!

Since I'm on a budget, I tend to stick to the US for vacations, but have ventured into Canada briefly. For summertime vacations, I like to head someplace relatively cool (compared to 100 degrees in Dallas), like the Northeast and Pacific coast states.

I like to spend time in nature and especially at the ocean. I usually try to work in a trip to history or art museums and a little shopping to find things made by local artists/craftsmen, so this requires a visit to a city or town. I also like to visit some 'off the beaten path' type attractions, though it's harder to find them, because so much worth seeing is overrun by tourists. I put a bit of effort into finding good restaurants to eat at, especially if there's a regional cuisine: e.g. when in Maine, find a popular lobster pound.
