On Hebrews 11:35, NT Wright wrote (in The Resurrection of the Son of God): "This seems to be an allusion, on the one hand, to the Sidonian widow whose son Elijah restored and the Shunammite woman whose son Elisha restored; and, on the other, the martyrs of 2 Maccabees. The text thus uses the word 'resurrection' in the two senses of 'resuscitation of the very recently dead' and 'resurrection to new bodily life at some stage in the future.' Both are clearly bodily; the reason for distinguishing them, and calling the later one 'better', is presumably because the writer is aware that in 2 Maccabees the mother was looking not for a short-term resuscitation but a new creation, part of the great new work, ushering in the age of cosmic justice, that the creator god would one day perform" (p. 458-459).

Thanks Leo, that is exactly what I was after. I was wondering when you were going to reply, since I started this thread after reading one of yours.
