    Old joke:
A dog looks at its owner and thinks "You feed me, care for me, and love me...you must be a god!"
A cat looks at its owner and thinks "You feed me, care for me, and love me...I must be a god!"

Wasn't there a WT or Awake article about whether it was proper for "christians" to have cats?

A little off the subject - but I just saw that Lewis (the six-toed psycho cat from hell) has been spared from the death penalty by a State Judge. He is confined to permanent house arrest, and this appears to be his ninth and final chance.

I was glad to hear it, but I sure hope his owner wakes herself up and finds him somewhere safe so he cannot get out again.

I have both a cat and a dog - both were of the lost by someone and found by me variety. No opinion what one is the best - but in car terms it is like having a 427 Corvette verses having a Porsche 911.

I leave it to the readers to guess which is which...

I also, love both cats and dogs. However, that being said, I much prefer a cat, as it does not need to go for a walk, and it doesn't gobble an entire weeks worth of food at one sitting, like a dog would. ( if you go away, the cat is pretty much self-sufficient).

My husband does not like cats, at all, although he relented a few years ago, and we got a Siamese cat from the animal rescue. He was beautiful, but we later found out why he was given up.....he had epilepsy. We loved him regardless of his ailment.

We now have a Boxer......like having a small horse in the house, but she's beautiful.

I'll take a dog any time. Can't get a cat to do Search and Rescue or police work!

ooh I am a pussy lover.

A good pussy has character and is so picky. If a pussy loves on you..there must be something wonderful about you. Don't be fooled though. It had better be really good for the pussy!!

Pussys are self sufficient. Kind of like I like men. I don't need no panty-waist man nor pussy wallowing thru the house and expecting me to take care of everything for them. I got news for ya'll I am the princess and there is only room for one.

    Pussy's like to lick.

Pussys keep the pest away in the home.

Pussys are fun to pet and play with.

Pussy purr is the most comforting thing when you are low.

If you must get a pussy, make sure you pet the pussy and hold it to start. That way your pussy does not run away from you as it grows.

Although you all made good arguments for pups, I have to say I would take a pussy face down any day over a pup.

When you cuddle a pussy make sure to talk soothingly to the pussy and scratch behind the ears. Pussy's love to be scratched.

And pussy's are pretty good at staying out of hurtful situations.

Yep I am a Pussy person.

I was always a dog person. Never liked and never understood cats.

Then one fateful day in 1992 I became the owner of not one but two 'kittens'. (It's amazing what we do when we realize that life is not treating a 10 year old fairly and one lone cute little kitten will somehow make things a little more bearable for him. - The one kitten came with a brother.)

At the time, I had an Australian Shephard. After about 2-3 weeks introduction period, all 3 pets had adjusted to each other. Of course, the big dog ruled the house while we were away at work and school.

My kittens did not grow up to be the cats I thought they would become. They really behaved more like dogs socially. They always greated me at the door when I came home. They 'talked' to each other, to the dog, to the 10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17-18 year old, and to me. They seemed to understand some 'commands'. One learned how to 'shake' hands.

I liked that I didn't have to walk them in the rain.

They were good companions. Scout died in October and I had to put Sylvester to sleep last month.

It's a little empty in my home now. (The 10 year old just turned 25 and has his own place.)

I'm thinking of getting two kittens (littermates again) but really think that the reason I liked my other ones so much is because they were socialized by a loving dog. I'm not sure if I'm up to the task of having 3 pets again. (Certainly not while still hobbling around on crutches...!!) But I do miss my little friends.

A few months from now I may very well adopt an older dog. And then 2 kittens after that.

Maybe I should think my plan through a little more.

    -Aude.

    dogs rule.

Basics: companion, roaming security, warmth(if you ever need it)

Umm, sure cats clean themselves constantly, but they usually do it on your kitchen counter next to your (was once) clean dishes in the middle of the night....

Cats and dogs are good for people who can't handle birds.

your absolutly right... I gotta friend that breeds large birds.. his Cockatoo and McCaw breading pairs are insane, and loud... not to mention all the bird shit he has to clean out of the aviaries, and cages, cause some fools decided to keep creaturese of flight in cages with clipped wings.... I have a running joke with him that I'm going to make bumper stickers that say: "My Dog Ate Your Bird"... LOL
