With all the threads, all the responses and comments, it is nearly impossible sometimes to follow-up on everything you read or write. More then ever, if threads get real large, you have a hard time figuring out who is responding to whom. So with this in mind, ever let off a bomb with one of your comments and not even follow up and until much later, not even realizing it happened? By bomb, I means that you say something that causes more responses then anything else on the thread or even the main topic. You come back much later and see your comment responded to over and over, with people taking parts of it quotes and getting quite emotional and upset about something you said. I have done this, and it is weird, as I will be responding to other threads and thinking, "all is just fun and conversation," and someone will seem all upset with me and I am thinking, "was it something I said in that last comment," and not even realize some major event took place about a comment I made and never had the time to go back and check on. I know this happens on lots of boards. So I was wondering, have you done this or I just alone on this happening?
Ever let off a bomb inside a thread and never even realized it?

I've tried to let bombs off and get away before, but they always end up following me around. Perhaps I should get filtering undergarments?

In some ways, I think it is kind of funny when it happens. I don't know so much that I have done it here, but I have been on the Internet for years and been on boards from religion to politics and seen it happen. The odd thing is, it can sometimes be caused by a spelling error. One time, I spelt something wrong (surprise surprise) and someone took the error to be an insult and others followed. I did not know and one time I was on another thread and someone said I was calling someone names and they posted a comment I said and there was that spelling error. So lesson learned, spell check from time to time.

Mine often do the opposite, kill the conversation. Must be nuetron bombs.

It has happened to me once on another discussion board when my views on a very controversial topic were taken completely out of context and someone chose to understand half of my reasoning. No matter how many times I continued to restate my points in their entire context, they continued to pick on the same details.
I ended up leaving the thread alone because as long as they weren't 'listening' there was no point in me saying anything more - apart from "change the record"!
Don't think I've done it on JWD - or if I have, I haven't realised it yet!

Sometimes I plant a bomb, like "them Americans" but nobody notices. But I rarely miss a response. The first place I check when I visit JWD is my last-visited threads, to see if there has been any action.

I'm still trying to figure out how to plant one. It seem the simplest subject, or comment usually sets it off.
Guess I'm not the "simpleton" I thought I was.
