Taking leave of absence from work

I have been sick for over a year now. The biggest problem that I'm having now is the one with my blood. The doctor has diagnosed me with lymphocytosis, neutropenia, and anemia. I had a bone marrow biopsy some weeks ago. It didn't make it any clearer for the doctor to give me a diagnosis???? For one thing, he didn't run all the test that could of been run because he didn't think it was NECESSARY. For those of you who don't remember, he stopped short of saying that I have myelodysplasia. He said that I have "a very questionable" myelodysplasia. Whatever that means? Anyway, I've been feeling run down, having chest pains, and the latest was kidney pain. I thought that I was passing a stone this weekend. I even went to the ER. They did a CT-Scan. My ureter and kidney wasn't swollen like the last time, so they sent me home with some Lortab, and told me to contact my nephrologist. I'm going in to see him today. The kidney pain stopped yesterday, but my nephrologist likes for me to come in still just to make sure a stone didn't lodge in and kill the kidney (so to speak), which would make the pain stop.

To make a long story short. I knew if I kept calling in, I was bound to get fired; so I took the leave of absence. I do have short-term and long-term disability. I'll just wait and see what happens.

Just thought I'd update those that may be interested.

I don't know what all those conditions are. Will have to try to look them up when I get home. Wish he'd done all the tests so you'd know what the heck to do and what medicines to take to get to feeling better. A year is too long to be feeling bad! The break from work sounds like a good idea.

Has your doc offered EPO to you? Would help with RBC count. You might also try SOD (super oxide dismutase) or also know as GliSODin. It will raise RBC count and many studies have concluded it is essential for life and welfare.

Not yet, Sinis. My Hgb is still 10. I don't think the doctor will get worried until it's around 8.

Taking an LOA from work is probably the best thing you can do for yourself right now. If you've got short and long-term disability coverage, just think of it as a long overdue vacation. Your body could probably do with some R&R to help you recuperate and get your strength back.

Shift work takes a toll on people, and compounded with the stress you're having from your JW daughters, your body was probably telling you that it needed a break.

I am kind of surprised that you could be fired for taking sick days when you're sick. Don't you have a union protecting your rights? They wouldn't get away with something like that where I work.

    Hugs, Scully
