I never learned how to lie well--that's why I was such a lousy JW. Did learn how to spot liars, though.

Hi and welome to the oard.

I was raised a JW and was a MS for many years and yes I suppose I did lead a double life.

However now I now definitely do not lead a double life - I have no need to.

I am in sales as is Candidlynuts, and in that field you have to be able to 'wear many different hats' which is not a double life but just fitting in and tuning in to the same wave lengths as my clients.

I love my life now and enjoy making new ('worldly') friends!

Wearing The Mask is what jws do every single time they walk out their door and step into the "wicked world that we are waiting for jehovah to destroy so we jws can live on it forevermore".

Every single minute they are "out in the world", grocery shopping for food distributed by...the world. When they drive a car, made by...the world. When they enjoy all the "wicked world" has to offer.

But then, when they walk back into their homes, constructed most likely by wicked worldly people, they peel their Mask off. And when they sit at their meetings and assemblies and read the WT litter-ature, what is it they are being taught and taught to preach? TO HATE THE WORLD. They sit and have talks about how wicked this sysyem is. Underlining in magazines that teach how wicked the people of this world are.

Then as soon as they leave those 'hate-fests', they carefully apply The Mask, again.

So please, saying that jws don't live double lives, is categorically false.

They are Masters Of Deception when they step foot into OUR WORLD.

Actually, I think it is a human condition and a battle with our real self and the self we present to others whether we are or are not now or never were JWs.

There must be tons of studies and books out there on this topic.

Personally, I grew up in an abusive household and trueness could be the road to destruction.

To assume that non-JWs know how to be their real self just on the basis of not having any WTS influence, is not realistic.

If you feel that you lie when telling the truth would not be dangerous, counseling might not be a bad idea.
