Love is eroding away in the Congo, why?

Carpenter I am surprised that there was a JW congo with genuine Christian love, during my time with the dubs in the early to mid eighties I never saw such a spirit neither in the congo I was with nor in the neighbouring ones.

They were a distinctly cold and self centred lot.

the CO said "why should we". "They dont love Jehovah , otherwise they would be hear, so dont pray for them".

Jesus said to love our enemies. How much more should we love and pray for our brothers and sisters who are going through rough times and may not be at the hall for some reason.

Nobody has to tell the elders why they aren't going to the hall. Some things are personal.

I was monetarily lost for words.

carpenter: Is this like putting your money where your mouth is?

    Just kidding!

There is so much back-stabbing, score-keeping and paranoia in the congos, how could love flourish? And I agree, it seems to have gotten worse.

I always figure that this situation is inevitable - given what the WTS emphasises:

i.e. Numerical growth at all costs, regardless of people's welfare.

According to the WTS, the "kindest" thing that you can do for a neighbour is sell him / her some WTS literature"preach the good news to him / her." As others on this post have already pointed out, most JWs are extremely sqeezed for time just trying to meet all the WTS demands on them. There is little or nothing to left over for anything else - certainly not for anything you can't "count time" for!

If the sole measure of a person's worth is the number of "hours" they enter on the monthly Field Service Report, it is not surprising that this is all that hard-pressed publishers are going to do.

It does tend to remind you of Christ's observations regarding what the Jewish leaders were doing to the R&Fin his time:

    - Did he not say that the people were being "skinned and thrown about like sheep without a shepherd"?

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The 1980's were soon after the 1975 debacle. Many were thinking we were in overtime and that soon Armageddoon was fast approaching. There were new schools opened, MTS, and exciting statements about he year of peace mid eighties. It was possible to get people to Aux Pioneer then because it was so fresh in publisher's minds that we were in overtime as it were.

Then the "Work" opened in Eastern Europe, Jehooba was opening the work so we could get the last of the russians into the truth before the end! Now that's proof. In time the whole thing fell apart and the congregation became an automaton that just rolled along.

Now its all about the numbers,

    hideous to be sure.

Thecarpenter noticed the erosion of love as recently as 12 years ago.

In actuality, the erosion of love has been a hallmark of the organization since even before Judge Rutherford's presidency of the Watchtower Society when the loveless rot had well and truly set in.

I myself observed the ill-effects of a lack of love in the 1970s...as soon as I was old enough to think like an adult instead of an infant.

However, overall, the JWs as an organization have lacked love the way deserts lack water...and sometimes the appearance of love has been little more than a mirage.

I have to agree with Drew as well. (I havne't figured out how to use a quote feature here yet) I have seen so much of a difference from the 70's - 80's and now. It doesn't even look like the same organization at times. That's just one of many reasons I started my fade 2 years ago. Conditional love. It's refreshing to see others who have experienced the same thing. I wonder how many others are disturbed by this but still 'clock in' 5 times a week ...

I once attended an elders and MS meeting; and the CO told us specifically not to pray for those who have been away from the meetings for a while, when opening or closing a meeting in prayer. One elder raised a question about it at the time , which i cant remember specifically, to which the CO said "why should we". "They dont love Jehovah , otherwise they would be hear, so dont pray for them".

    How sick and twisted!

That is not what one expects to hear from an organisation that claims to be uniquely Christian since Christ himself said pray for your enemies. The FDS can't accept that many JWs leave because of the doctrinal mess they have created. They are too arrogant to accept criticism, apologise and change things for the better.
