Well, I'm ancient and went to the door when I was 6 years old, 50 years ago (approximately 1950). I guess a lot of things could have happened during that 45 year period that other people on this board did not experience, probably because they weren't born yet.

Believe me, we handed out invitations to the district "assemblies" back in the late 60's and and 70's. Aren't you glad you missed it?

A page for each convention showing the convention printed program picture plus where available a picture of the Public talk handbill and the delegate badge.

I picketed street corners in strange big cities with sandwich signs tied to me, front and back, that advertised the Jehovah's Witness district convention. I'm pretty darn sure the name Jehovah's Witnesses was NOT on the signs printed by them. Jehovah's Witnesses are extremely NOT proud of their name.

In Rutherford's day, they advertised Rutherford and not the name, Jehovah's Witnesses. In Knorr and Franz's days they advertised topics and not the name, Jehovah's Witnesses. Today under Max Larson and Don Adams they advertise slogans, not the name, Jehovah's Witnesses because they are extremely NOT proud of their own name.

In service I was taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses to say I was a Bible Student because Jehovah's Witnesses are extremely NOT proud of the name of their religion (business).

Watch Tower attorneys might be proud of the name but the Witness people and their marketing people sure as heck aren't.

This was my first district assembly. I was 5. I remember it and all the relatives sitting together.
Invitation to district assembly in Sioux Falls in 1949. No mention of Jehovah's Witnesses. Do ya know why?

Excellent points, Gary, about what the WTS emphasized on the handbills/placards. Even now JWs avoid saying, "we're Jehovah's Witnesses" at the door. The sample WTS introductions won't even use the word "Jehovah."

I took these resolutions from another topic but I believe they are the ones referred to.

    1. We are determined to intensify our preaching activity.

    2. To live up to our dedication to Jehovah and give him exclusive devotion.

    3. To follow Jesus' example closely and be no part of the world.

    4. To manifest our loyalty to Jehovah and Jesus and not compromise Bible principles.

    5. Not get involved in interfaith movements.

    6. Remain subject to superior authorities but NOT get involved in political issues.

    7. Be determined to resist spirit of the world; not getting involved in chat rooms, Materialism, Entertainment, Drunkenness, Pornography."

Stephanus....you are right on the money. Let everyone think that elders and ms's are getting hooked on porn and not what they are really hooked on to.....forums such as this and the are falling like flies. The WTS must be losing a few members and not just R&F but guys of influence and longevity. Surely the R&F must question where they are, what are they doing?
There is a guy here who talks about a CO who "fell away" he says he no longer believes the bible. More likely the NWT as the word of god.

Last weekend in Finland in "No Opposing Weapon or Tongue Will Succeed." speech:

First there was something about trial in Germany where JW's achieved victory this year (recognition as a Corporation of Public Right).

"It looks like apostates have their international network where they are changing thoughts with apostates around the world. They have thoughts -- and if some government has made some decision it soon appears on every apostates computer and they are thrilling about it in their own area. Please, do not ever push that apostate-button. It is not --- it should be removed from all computers."

They also kept repeating how "slandering-campaing in internet" has nothing to do with zero-growth or slight decrease. Their official reasoning goes so that because witnesses have been 100 years in Finland, there are many old witnesses who die and mortality percentage is 1.5 percent among witnesses.
