I don't know what the thing is obscuring the view. Maybe work was being done on the exterior of the building. Usually the view is clear and impressive - much better in real life. I hope to go back there in the next few weeks - if my stomach doesn't act up.

The kebab shop's an obvious giveaway. It's somewhere in the UK. As to where, well, I've never been, so I can't hazard a guess.
Probably a cathedral town, since you think that's a clue. My guess, at this stage, off the top of my head,and not doing any googling, would be York.

Why does the kebab shop automatically imply the UK? I mean... kebabs are everywhere. I had one at a Lebanese joint the other day.
