JW relatives laying it on heavy...

  My father in law just called me to see how we were doing here this evening. I was glad to hear from him, but of course I got a good dose of JW reasoning along with the concern.
  He mentioned he was on his way to a dentists appointment this morning and was listening to the AWAKE! magazine on tape. He said he shut it off and when he did the radio came on and he discovered what had happened in NY and Washington. He off course went on to tell me how he thinks that this is really the beginning of the countdown towards armaggedon. He thinks that because of what happened today the UN will get sick of all religions in short order and get rid of em, and etc. etc. yadda yadda yadda. He said it may take a while, and it won't be tomorrow, but the ball is now rolling. Of course the JW programming has been kicking in off and on all day adding to the horror of the situation...I'm trying to use my common sense, but the force of the dark side is strong, young skywalker Help me Obiwan!!!! <flickering on and off like a faulty holigram>

  This is big time news going on now. So the JWs are using it to the hilt. They are scared and they think the answer is the Big A. They are conditioned to believe it is coming at any moment and this is a big momment so this MUST be the one. Over the last 40 years of my life as a JW there have been so MANY "this is its" that I can't count them all. Wars, natural disasters, world event after world event, Aids, other diseases, and the list goes on and on. Right now this disaster is one of the hugest ones since the middle east wars so they are contered on it. The Big A offers an explaination for this and everyone, JW or not, are looking for an answer. It simplifies it. But when the Big A doesn't come they will forget they said it and move on. JWs have a limited memory. Sad...but sad for us all.
  Preaching to you is part of the game plan. You are to see this disaster as so big it will "bring you back to Jehovah". If brings them personal hope that you will be "forgiven" and saved. A wierd way to show their love for you but love just the same.

  Please don't worry about what your father says. I bet the jws said the same thing about Desert Storm.

  You hit it on the nail Lindy - Every major disaster has been looked upon by the Society as a starting point of that possibility that Armageddon is just around the corner....Remember 1874, 1914 - they thought that the end would come then...then it was up to 1924.., then 1929 the stockmarket crash...., then 1939, the start of WW2, then the big year 1975; they even commended those brothers who left their employ to go pioneering because the end would come in 1975 (yes the Society IS guilty of all those false prophesies)..
  Did they ever humbly apologize???? No never, to make matters worse, they even blamed the individual witnesses throughout the world to become less "date-oriented" and have more faith in Jehovah etc. etc.
  Never did they admit their mistakes....for your information, the World Wide Church of God (Armstrong) made similar predictions but was found to be wrong as well. The World Wide Church of God did apologize profusily and they were truly sorry for the many mistakes and conjectures they were broadcasting before... Yes by their fruits (of cowardness) you will recognize those Witnesses...

  I'm avoiding my mother right now for this very reason.I don't want to hear that nonscense!
  I can understand your feelings.This is normal but it will get better when you gain more confidence in your reasoning ability.You were taught to doubt yourself.
  There have been other tragedies and terrorist acts in the recent past and all down through history that witnesses could try to latch on to as signs of the end, but that doesn't make them right.
  This atttack is just a sad reality of life.This kind of thing happens in different countries all over the world and will probably continue.

  yeah, they sure did. I remember my mom really being affected by that at the time, and saying the same things about desert storm that they are saying about what is going on now. At the time I was still an active JW (active, but with serious doubts)

  It seems like all, ok most religions through the ages have latched onto whatever disaster comes along as a 'sign of the times' a sign that the end is near. And I tell myself that.... But still that programming is one hell of a thing to try to combat!

  I had the same speach from my mother this morning and ..did you know bethel is just over that bridge ..blah blah blah.

  I said yeah Im sure they are all hoping its Armaggedon and not thinking of all the innocent people being killed.

  To that she says 'im sure no one is saying that'To which I reminded her of a saying weve heard plenty of jws say .
  'we will step over him in Armaggedon'

  She didnt have alot to say after that!

  I am expecting the phone call tonight. And we all know what type of phone call I mean, don't we????

  This is the beginning of the end, and look how Jah looked after Bethel.........UGH

  If this happens I just know I cannot shut my mouth against their dribble anylonger.
  I just wish they could all walk through that rubble and get a real life taste of what they so gleefully look forward to.
  Sorry for venting......emotional for all of us at the moment.

  My dad just called me at work.

  He said the loss of human life was terrible, and speculated the probable outcome will be that future passnegers will be built with a galley and toilet adjacent to the flight deck and no access to the flight deck except from outside; apparently the terroruists slaughtered flight attendants on at least one of the planes until the pilots let them in.

  He then said that with the Twin Towers gone you couldn't help but wonder what it would be like at Armagedon.

  *sigh*

  I think he got my rather silent reaction to do this, as he rang of quite quickly.

  I rememeber back to the Cuban Missile Crisis. which had all the JWs salivating about the imminence of the Big Bang.... ``You see? It's all right here in the book of Daniel, as explained in our little lime green gem of a book ``Your Will Be Done on Earth.''
