Young People Ask ' How can I help those in Need? Awake Aug 2006 Now I remember when we were JWs and raising funds for a new KH, the money HAD TO come from publishers pockets. There was NO WAY that there were to be any raising of funds by selling second had goods, jumble sales, cookies sales, etc. That would have been like being of the Religions of the World who did those sorts of things to raise money. It was a big NO NO! I know this even more so, because my MIL wanted to hold jumble sales to raise money and was told off by the Elders. Any way, this particular article enlightened me to 'New Light' on the subject: 'A group of Witness youths in the US, ranging in age from 4 to 15, heard that their fellow believers in Africa needed Kingdom Halls. So they decided to take action. 'We sold cookies and muffins at a yard sale and earned $106.54. We told people that the money may be used for meeting places in Africa where people could learn about the Bible. Many responded. It took us nine hours, but it was worth the effort - It was for Jehovah!' There is a little reminder in this article on where the money goes that is sent to the WTBTS. 'Donations for a specific relief effort are gratefully accepted. However, it is preferred that such donations be made to the worldwide work of Jehovah's Witnesses, since monies are drawn from this fund as the need arises.'
New fundraising methods for the WTBTS!

When we were raising funds for our new KH, we were told we could have a bake sale, yard sale whatever we wanted but we couldn't say it was for the KH. It was like you have a yard sale and you can use the money however you wanted. You couldn't call it a KH yard sale. Looks like they don't care where the money is coming from.

And then loaned it back to us with interest.
That sounds alot like organized crime...Hmmmm? There's an idea...

How about selling some high yield wheat grain to raise some funds?
Let's see, we could call it......Miracle Wheat!
Yes! Buy Miracle Wheat for a contribution of $1 a pound!
Think anyone would buy it?

Some years ago when we were going to build a Kingdom hall one of the Elders put it to the publishers discreetly that they could come to his almond orchard and pick the crop and he would donate the money to the hall fund. It was forbidden to talk about it at the meetings and the event definitely not to be mentioned from the platform.Oooo it was so naughty to talk about it at meetings . The decision was made after this to never allow an event like this again with no real reason expressed. Weird huh!

I think he actually did put it in for all the other Elders knew about the arrangement including the secretary. And he was a nice bloke ,but it is funny how the Org has so many rules that you had to be careful not to trip over them!

We had yard sales.....to raise funds for the kh. Nothing wrong with it so long as the cong officially didnt sanction it. ALL the elders were involved and they raised heaps!!
Some of the stricter pharasees need to get a life. If you dont raise some outside funds, it all has to come from the R&F.....poor little sheep...baaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
