    a) What is a Southern European and what is a Northern European?

    b) Do I express my emotions? Depends on who I am expressing myself to. If I trust the person/people, yeah, maybe a little too freely. If I don't trust 'em, nope. Maybe a little too guarded.

I do think men and women differ greatly in this area.

Southern Europeans are also better at expressing emotion than northern Europeans

You clearly haven't met Kent! LOL! (To be seen sitting on a bunch of bottles on the apostabbq thread!)

Also does Britain fall into Northern or Southern Europe?

    Generally:

Northern tends to be classed as Britain, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland and places not on the Med.

Southern is Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece - those which border the Med.

I'm more emotional than I used to be - at home it was not wise for me to be emotional, but now I'm free!!

sometimes, yes. but, i've improved a GREAT deal in that area. as a dub, we are taught not to show negative emotions, and, being a child of an alcoholic family, you aren't allowed to have emotions either, only the drunk's emotions are valid. so.......i had a huge wall to climb. at first, i'd keep everything inside, and of course, when i let it out, it was a big gush........and especially with anger........totally blown out of all proportion.......and then, of course, i'd feel horrible for losing it. and, then there's the whole issue of fear of authority figures, like the boss, etc........i think i'm doing pretty good, considering where i've come from.

Sad Emo gave the right definition of what is Northern/Southern European, I only clarify that the southerners are also called Latins, while the Scandinavians, Russians and Baltics are also northerners. The Russians are passionate expressive people but not as abrupt and hot tempered as the Latins.

I wonder if the high rates of heart disease in the North have to do with that more introverted nature of not letting out steam.

"Northern tends to be classed as Britain, Ireland, France, Germany"

Britain and Ireland yes, but both Southern France and Southern Germany have more "latin" attitudes and dispositions.

Southern French (Aix-en-Provence and downwards) and Germans (e.g. Wurtemberg, Southern Bavaria) typically have darker, olive skin tones with dark hair and eyes, certainly the case with my ancestors, who all looked very mediterranean as opposed to the more "nordic" looking northern Germans and French.

I used to bottle things up all the time, and to my detriment in some cases. It's only since leaving the wts that I've been more expressive. I still bottle things up a bit, but I'm improving.

I was never one to express my emotions openly (more a result of upbringing than a gender issue). One thing is for sure, however--they have been coming out alot more lately. Just yesterday I read a thread here about a young JW who committed suicide, & had to leave my desk for several minutes. Perhaps this is another sign of newfound 'freedom.."

I bottled up my emotions when I was younger, now I don't do it so much anymore. What I've found that when I merely express that I'm annoyed, or frustrated or disappointed, that helps to defuse the negative emotions so they don't grow into something more intense.

With that said, I'm still more emotional internally than I let on.
