    Thanks everyone...

It's all just just a bunch of small crap that normally wouldn't stress a person.

I'm stressing over how I've spent MONTHS going to Drs and doing Sleep Studies and other crap to fix a simple problem: I cannot breathe through my nose at night.

What upsets me is that they are billing my insurance and me INSANE amounts of money yet they have not provided ANY form of relief. I'm starting to think the ENT isn't even listening to me: "HEY BUDDY... FORGET THE SLEEP STUDY and CPAP TESTING THAT IS COSTING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS... MY PROBLEM IS THAT I CANNOT BREATH THROUGH MY NOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!". Apparently he doesn't get the fact that I cannot sleep at night because I cannot breath through my nose... not the other way around. It is becoming painfully obvious that he discovered that I have very good insurance and is milking it for all its worth.

I'm also stressing over a humidifier I bought last night in an attempt to help open my sinuses. I got it home and it was painfully obvious that it had been used for a very long time in a very nasty environment and then return to the shelf to be sold again... so I brought it back and got another one. When I got the new one home I plugged it in and discovered that my attempt to save money resulted in my getting a humidifier that sounds like a damn airplane flying in the room. I'll have to bring this one back too and find yet another one to buy.

My Dr has also recently upped my allergy and sinus related meds (steroids) to insane amounts and I'm wondering if that doesn't have anything to do with my edgy nerves lately.

You know that if you're not getting enough sleep it's more likely to set off stress?

The doc has no practical suggestions for you?

If you're not getting the results you need from the expensive doctors you've been seeing, then maybe it's time to move on. You can simply call his/ her office and cancel your upcoming appointments by stating that you are going to pursue a second medical opinion. You have the right to change primary care providers if they aren't being helpful either: I'd check your isurance for in-plan specialists in this field:

Otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist)

Otolaryngologists, sometimes referred to as otorhinolaryngologists or ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors, are medical doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases or conditions of the ear, nose, and throat.

Otolaryngologists can prescribe medication and perform surgery for sinus problems, sleep apnea, or to remove tonsils or cancerous growths, for example. Some otolaryngologists also do certain cosmetic procedures to improve appearance.

Otolaryngologists can be board-certified through the Board of Otolaryngology, which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Good Luck. Hopefully you'll find a doctor who will care for your condition so you can sleep better.

Elsewhere, maybe you have a "deviated septim"? (sp)? My friend had that, and got it operated on and he breaths much better now, so he says. He's still ugly, but it won't cure everything.

Do you want NOdenial and me to make a "shepherding visit" like you did us on Sunday night?????????

(For those of you not knowing....Elsewhere made a "shepherding visit" on us on Sunday. He totally made us feel so much better...)

As for your sinus stuff.....I am dealing with something that is bothering me terribly....it is involving my teeth. I have intense pain on one side of my face...upper and lower teeth, intermittant pain and headache...and it is so bad I want to cry......

I need a good dr. to go to....

So sorry about all of this. Maybe you should get a second opinion and just fire your doctor.

For right now, maybe a bowl of ice cream would help. It's cool, it's yummy, and you have to eat it slowly so as not to get a headache. Gives you time to calm down and reflect as you lick the creamy spoonfuls.

Remember, stressed spelled backward is desserts!

    Thanks...

I had a great time the other night! We will have to do it again!

My sinus problems are not caused by pressure, or anything like that. Simply put, the air way in my nose is blocked preventing air from moving through. I don't have any headaches, pain, or anything like that... however I will wake up in middle of the night gasping for air.

The Sleep Study did find that I have *minor* case of Primary Sleep Apnea... the kind that most people have where the throat closes and prevents one from being able to inhale - this is what a CPAP device is intended to help. However I also have Central Sleep Apnea, which is even worst and more scary.... Central Sleep Apnea is a neurological disorder where the brain "forgets" to tell the body to breath, so instead of being asleep struggling to breath like most people with Sleep Apnea, I just lay there turning blue without even *trying* to breath. Think of it as an adult form of SIDS. Eventually my oxygen level gets so low that my heart goes into a "panic" mode, which is like a small heart attack, and that wakes me up so I will take a gasp of air.

What pisses me off is that my ENT wants me to buy a $2,400 CPAP device to fix this. First of all, I looked them up and a high-end CPAP device should cost about $800, not $2,400. Second, a CPAP device will do absolutely NOTHING to help my Central Sleep Apnea since my lungs are not even trying to breath to begin with. At most the CPAP will inflate my lungs and then hold them inflated... which is no different than my holding my not breathing to begin with.

I like the idea of getting a second opinion... I'm already seeing an ENT but so far I have been very unimpressed with him.

It's like he is saw my insurance card and decided the best course of action was the most expensive... while totally forgetting to actually FIX the problem I have.
