Wow! Seriously? There was a branch up here??? That was news to me... but then I never paid attention to the small font in the magazines... I was only concerned with making sure it looked like I had studied them before the Sunday Study.

Like someone else said... they must have overseen more than just this state itself, I can't believe that there was enough going on here to warrant a separate branch. I've lived in this state for 13 years and never once had Witnesses at my door...

Unless maybe they were counting those fishing lodges as branches???

I must admit surprise and shock that so many of you missed the OBVIOUS reason for the change:

Armageddon is really, Really, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY close!

So close that if you were to stick your tongue out, it would touch Armageddon!

    YES! That close!

Go ahead, stick your tongue out.

    Did you feel it?

It means that the folks working at the Alaskan Branch are going to be working at the Wal-Mart in Anchorage.

That means they will be getting a raise. A pay increase of 400%. Good for them!

Not only that, but now they will engaged in the production of value instead of the production of parasitism.

That will only feel good until they realize that a 1 bedroom apartment rents for $850/month. Don't give up the dream of the end of parasitism just yet, Nathan!

There were only 2 full-time Bethelites at the Alaskan Branch to my knowledge. Gerald Ronco and his wife Lucy who I believe died last year. I'm guessing that Jerry's age and the death of his wife may be a factor in closing the Alaskan Branch as well, but that's just speculation. Oh yeah, and there is a private plane up there owned by the Society, but no fishing lodge, LOL. I'm pretty sure the plane was taken out just to reach the remote villages inaccesable by road, it was just a small plane nothing luxurious.
