Last Saturday, my fiancee and I went out, and wound up in an indoor flea market walking around.

We went past many many stalls... people were selling any and everything that you could imagine - and that would fit within a cubicle of about 10-feet by 10-feet. (Some were larger, too.)

Well, we found one stall that the fella had used books - and he had pretty well organized them by 'topic'. One topic was religion. I couldn't resist. I had to look.

Yuppers... crammed in there was an old JW publication. 'Truth' book-sized... and dark brown. He had a price of $1.00 on it. I pulled it out just to read the name on it.

'Theocratic Ministry School Guidebook' - or somesuch - Copyright 1971.

Geez... that's old. I probably had one just like it. I flipped through a few of the pages - not really reading anything - just looking at it. Then I put it back.

I have no need or desire to have one in my possession.

BUT!!! If there is someone out there that wants it - I'll go back over there next weekend, and get it fer ya - and mail it to ya. (I know some of yall 'collect' these sorts of things.)

I work at a Half Price Books and regularly see all sorts of old JW publications come in.

It is my distinct pleasure to shitcan them. There is a legitimate reason to do so that has nothing to do with censorship.

I'd do the same with a Gideon Bible or ANY BOOK WITHOUT A RETAIL PRICE.

The Recycle Bin is a lovely graveyard for certain publications.

I once discarded an entire set of bound Watchtower volumes. It was an amazing feeling, I have to tell you.

I may be hijacking my own thread here, but...

"...or ANY BOOK WITHOUT A RETAIL PRICE."

I've often wondered about this... I go to used book/record stores, and will see those 45 RPMs or 33RPMs that are clearly marked 'DEMO copy - not for resale' (or somesuch) on them... sitting there with a pricetag on them.

My way of thinking is that they should never wind up in the 'retail' chain - even as 'used'.

The problem comes down to two aspects:

    1. The temptation to make money where you shouldn't

    2. Ignorance on the part of the person pricing an item for sale.

At Half Price Books we are instructed not to sell "Advance Copy" publications or promos.

But, the very high volume of items coming in and getting marked makes this less than a fool-proof policy.

I sell on Ebay and occassionally sell old WT publications. I FREQUENTLY have a JW challenge me on it. I was told I was breaking copyright laws, plagarizing etc (this person is not too bright or literate, obviously)by selling WT publications which are given (according to him) FREELY. Most of the publications in question were from days when they were SOLD at the literature counter. I have no issues with selling them. Some of them I had purchased from the lit. counter or a reseller myself. I own them, I have a right to sell them. One JW accused me of getting literature from the org just so I could re-sell. From my most recent experience years ago, that would be more trouble than its worth-anything remotely difficult to find is just that because it takes forever to get them from the org. Many of my customers are JWs who are sick of waiting for their literature to arrive from Bethel. One lady could not get them to send her a big large print Bible to save her life. I don't know if it is a Bethel issue or a counter/lazy issue. Since all the pubs I sell are used, I obviously am not trolling the local KH to steal their literature:)

Notice it was only replaced recently. It is a dumbed down version. WOW - I find myself disagreeing with Blondie. I think the new book for the TMS is a vastly improved and beefed up version. More in depth and splits up modulation etc into smaller topics
