Just received this email from my cousin.
I have to tell you about this. Yesterday, I get a letter in the mail, looks like a business letter/ I open it up and its an invitation from the JW to attend a "special event" at their upcoming assembly here in Rochester. Sounds like they are having an event for non-members now. On the flyer they sent, one of the the things they said would be covered was "How to have a happy family" I had to laugh at that one!!
anyone else heard of this?

I've not met so many unhappy families outside of the Borg - all families have their difficulties but unless they've undergone some unusual trauma such as Terminal Illness or bereavement then they would have no need of such a Special Event.
Maybe I could attend and stand up and ask how I am supposed to have a Happy Family when none of them will speak to me - so that anyone tempted to attend can hear both sides - that JWs DO NOT cement families - they break them into tiny little pieces.

Is this sponsored through the convention or a congregation or an individual JW or group of JWs?
Doesn't sound like an "official" event....do you have any more information?

maybe it is like the special Olympics, but for jws?
Our family members are survivors - we have all picked up and moved on though we will never forget what happened. But perhaps that is good as we won't get mixed up w/a controlling organization again.
Juni Sorry Lisa I didn't answer your question. No. We haven't received any such invitation. It sounds strange though.
