College -- Online vs. Classroom

Has anyone out there taken online classes only to obtain a degree? I finally bit the bullet and will be returning to school in September. I went to a community college many years ago, but never finished what I started. This time around I will be going the online route 100%. Has anyone out there done both? Is the online side fairly easy, or hard, compared to a classroom setting? What should I expect? Finding the time to complete my schoolwork should not be a problem at all. I have plenty of time during my workday to study(I have about 7 hours of downtime during my normal day).

    Just curious.

I have done both and prefer the class room because I am not disciplined enough to do it online. I was always waiting until the last minute to do my things after all I had till midnight before the assigments were due. If you are disciplined enough the online classes can be a god send especially for working adults.

Online doesn't work for me. Tried it and had to quit the class. I need the classroom setting to insure I understand the material I am to learn. Good luck to you and I hope it works out. My vote will from now on be classroom only.

A coworker took the online route. The classes she takes involve a lot of teamwork and she had to logon nearly every day. There's emails to read and teammates work to track down and compile together in one coherent piece. I think she spends more time on each course than I ever did in traditional college courses.

That wouldnt work for me at all, I've got no self control and would spend all day on here!

I think as long as you were disciplined about it you should be good. What are you studying?

Hmmm, not too many for online. Well, to be honest, I slacked pretty hard back when I attended in person. But these days, I want to learn. The thing is, I see some of my work colleagues getting degrees and I'm thinking, "Hell, if they can do it, I know I can!" Some of these people are dumber than a box of rocks, but yet they still make it through college. That alone was my greatest incentive for going back. If they can do it, I know I can.

    What are you studying?

The degree track is labeled as Information Technology - Networking, but it is really geared for telecommunications. I've been in telecommunications for almost 14 years now and can't see myself doing anything else. This is my life and hobby. It only makes sense to study what I live for.

Well there you go! If you are into it like that then it should be easy to find the time to study.

I did a master's in linguistics. It does take tremendous self-discipline. But you can study when you want. I would say that it's just as tough in terms of coursework and writing papers. Sounds to me like computer information could be done just as easily online. It also tends to be a little cheaper.
