    Hi Andy,

This seems to be a bookmark the Bible Students used to sell.

I think it is not related to any brochure.

    Hope you are well, Andy.

Is it from a splinter group?

Jehovah's Witnesses dropped the cross and crown symbol a while before 1943, but a splinter group may still have been using it...

As far as I know they used these ribbons the way they now use the ID tags at DC s.
According to me these ribbons were used at a DC in 1943 in Pensylvania. I have no proof of that though.
If that's true though then this statement

Jehovah's Witnesses dropped the cross and crown symbol ;a while ;before 1943

    does not hold up.

That ribbon looks like it was from a Laymen's Home Missionary Movement convention. They hold their yearly conventions in Pennsylvania and still use the Cross and Crown symbol. This group was founded by Paul S. L. Johnson who broke with Rutherford in 1917. They publish The Bible Standard and The Present Truth magazines. They have a website so this should be easy to research.

Rutherford banned the Cross and Crown from Watchtower publications in the early 1930s.

Bible Students had conventions in 1943 and continue to have them today. In structure they resemble the conventions of the WTS, with scheduled speakers on a podium. Some Bible Students also film their conventions and put them online for viewing/listening. It is good to remember that there is not one big Bible Student orgnization but several individual groups.

    Hey Blondie, thank you.

So you don't think this ribbon was made by the Watchtower to use at one of their conventions?

You may be right you know, but I still have the impression it was used at one of their conventions.

Until proven otherwise though I'll stick with your version.

The WTS took that symbol on the cover of the WT in 1931 and had the newly named JWs turn in their cross and crown pins (though some survived)

    ***

jv chap. 14 p. 200 "They Are No Part of the World" ***

For years, Bible Students wore a cross and crown as a badge of identification, and this symbol was on the front cover of the "Watch Tower" from 1891 to 1931. But in 1928 it was emphasized that not a decorative symbol but one’s activity as a witness showed he was a Christian. In 1936 it was pointed out that the evidence indicates that Christ died on a stake, not a two-beamed cross,

Based on this history, any group that used the cross and the crown, could not have had any official connection with the WTS. They would have had to be a Bible Student group or another group.

I think the cross and crown is still used on this website; www.ctrussel.us

I agree with Blondie that it could not be JW's as late as the date is - but the Bible Students may have had several factions by the date on the article.
