I am sometimes out of control myself, due to the demon rum, and therefore, cannot condemn poor old Mel. Didn't Mel film The Passion of Christ, about this guy who was a Jew?

I sort of think that Mel has certain Messianic fantasies, which are revealed in his films. Take a look at his crucificixion at the end of Braveheart.

    Just one example.

Mel said the jews have been the cause of every war!

    What absolute rubbish!!!

I recall there was one in 1762................................

He should have just stuck to MAD MAX and gone out in a blaze of glory with BRAVEHEART!!!! That was a great movie!

I loved Lethal Weapon from back in the day, but, you know he just played the part of a looney-tunes cop a little bit too perfectly. Mel is not well, blames it on a bad world, turns to rigid religion, but can't maintain the facade and winds up looking like a complete kook. It happened to me too.

    Mixed feelings on this one.

Alcoholism is a disease, but the words he said came from somewhere inside himself.

Not sure if he can come back from this. Hollywood doesn't seem to be rallying around him. Didn't he know there are lots of Jews in Hollywood?

Glad he is in rehab and I wish him the best. He isn't one of my favorite personalities, but he has a wife and many children. They will suffer too.

Mel converted to a more evangelical form of Catholicism sometime back as I understand it. Jewish people are not the only ones he has been on a tirade about he absolutely hates gays and has some very horrible things to say about us. I also heard his dad has gone on the public record to say that most of the holocaust is fiction. So seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I used to like his movies. Wouldn't see one now for any money. Wish him the best in rehab but I doubt they will eradicate the venom.

Well if anyone saw him give interviews after his little christ movie, right there should have told people that he started to have a god complex. Then the whole story about his becoming more and more of a religious nut. Thanks but no thanks, I was not going to contribute to some one's life to allow them to start morphing into some religious nut.

And, let's all keep in mind, a drunk man says what a sober man thinks. Sorry, but I do believe all the anti semitic statements he made, he really feels. However, when he is sober he is smart enough to keep his trap shut because he realizes that those people out there that look to him like some sort of prophet will start to change their thinking if he comes across as a self righteous headcase who is prejudice against Jews.

"Dear Mel... you're a real JERK when you're drunk."

Now, for some real world facts about Hollyweird ...

    1. Major players in Hollywood wouldn't financially and P.C. back "Passion of the Christ"... Mel went out and raised his own money. Movie made a BOATLOAD of cash. (btw, Mel never really did the Hollywood thang...)

    2. Hollywood loves Boatloads of cash, doesn't matter if you're a Jew, Christian, Buddist, whatever ... in a couple of months they'll be referring to this DUI as "that little incident" and WISHING Mel would co-produce his next big hit with them .

    3. The paying audience has even shorter memories, especially if someone is remorseful... get ready for the rehab SPIN, and "Mel's really a nice guy".... he'll be bigger than ever.

    my 2 cents...

Eh, he's a fine director and a fine actor who now has been forced to admit publically he's an alcoholic. He's utterly humiliated himself before the entire world as an addict who needs help and he knows it and said so. The lies, slander, bigotry and media shennanigans Gibson had to put up with from the Jewish community that tried to wreck his "Passion" film were as ridiculous as the actor's comments about Jews to the police that busted him.

I'm looking forward to Gibson's next directorial debut "Apocalypto."
