Misanthropic...that is what my Doctor said, he never see's them in people my age. I think I am his most challaging patient because I had to have my appendix out when I was 12 weeks pregnant and the surgeon said it was the biggest appendix he has ever seen ( they are usually the size of a pinky when infected and mine was the size of a baseball). I also had to have most of my right lung removed when I was 19 years old because of a carsanoid tumor ( also extremely rare in people my age, and in the lung, they are usually found in the bpwels in older people). Maybe Im one for the books..............

I had shingles when I was twelve. I'm wondering why I was so stressed at 12???

I remember how excrutiating it was to have my mom dab on Calamine lotion with a cotton ball. I also remember just laying on the couch watching endless hours of TV because I just couldn't move.

I still have a small area on my back that is numb from the nerve damage.

Sorry I have no advice since it was 24 years ago. I do have endless sympathy, especially since you are pregnant! That sounds like it would exacerbate the pain with the skin stretching. I hope you get relief soon.

I had hives last day of my last District Assembly and for days after. I was 31. My wife had to drive home 400 miles. Was I stressed? You bet! That was the assembly the Watch Tower Publishing security guards belly pushed me and my 3 year old son away from the candy vending machine.
I don't ever remember having shingles.

Has anyone else had these? What do you do for the insane itching and mind-numbing pain?????

Yes! I've had them. I feel for you. For the pain, I had to take Lortab and I kept a heating pad on it. Heat helped me better than cold. When I first got the shingles, I thought that I was passing a kidney stone! The bumps/lesions appeared about a couple of days later.

    Yep, stress brings them out.

I know that you can't take Lortab now. What in the world are you taking?

when I was 41 i had shingles really bad, and yes that itching and soreness still bothers me to this day. The doctor said that mine were brought on by being sick in august 1992 with pneumonia which originally was bronchitis, then I lost my grandma in 1992 in October, I was still ill and was so upset and I travelled everyday back and forth to Toronto from my town of Newmarket and the stress of watching my grandma dying was too much, then in November my best friend in the Org. was dissasociated, then I had a relapse of pneumonia then in December I had shingles . I was a mess I was sleeping on average 20 hours aday. My doctor prescribed AZT. the same medication they give to Aids patients. It took all the energy completely out of my body. I was on pain medication and found that zinc oinment helped and anti bacterial steroid ointment. By March of 1993 I was starting to get better. By May of that year I finally was getting my strenght back.

Warm baths with salts are good, I believe I made my bath a little cool as heat aggrevated it.

I wouldn't wish them on anyone.

I do hope you get well soon both for yourself and the little one you are carring.

    I will pray for you

    Bless

Been there, done that. Get lots of rest. Do exactly as the dr. says and eat high quality food. But the most important thing of all is try to cut out or cut down on current levels of stress.

One of my friends recently battled shingles. Hers was in the head area and it has caused some vision lost and ear problems. She said the pain was excruciating.

<<I only know older people who are in retirement homes that have had shingles. I didn't know young ones could get them. Boy you guys are all falling apart>>

My doc said he had never seen them in somone so young. YAY ME. I was under so much jw stupid doctrine crap at the time. I really wish he had asked me more questions in regards to my insane stress levels and not my mother.

No, I can't take Lortab..they tried to give me Hydrocodone, but that makes me so sick to my stomach and I would feel bad taking it being pregnant and all. thank you for the tip on the salt baths, I am going to try that. the itching is driving me crazy. The only thing I am taking for pain is tylenol which is a joke. I am on Valtrex for the virus and that makes me feel AWFUL!!!!

Thank you all for your advice!
